I haven't had any time to work on the van lately. There are a lot of things I'd like to get done but right now it's functional so I'm going to use it while the weather is good.
We've had a few great short trips. A week in Bend and Hood River for spring break and a few days near Republic, WA for Memorial Day weekend.
Ready for action with the bikes and the skis on my cobbled together adventure rack. I can't open the back doors with it on but I'm willing to make that sacrifice for the storage.
Saw this nice AWD camper conversion at a trailhead in Bend. Friendly couple, they didn't mind showing us their van. I'm never shy to ask to see other peoples vans. The Vanagon community was very friendly. I'm finding that the AWD express crowd is similar to the syncro people except we can actually use our vans on the weekends instead of having to spend half of our free time (and money) trying to keep them running!
This campsite would have been impossible to use without AWD. Old snow is the worst! This is on the road to Mt Batchelor.
Spring skiing at Batchelor is awesome. They charge $20 to camp in the lot and I think it's worth it for heated bathrooms and pay showers. After the lifts are closed it's time for some parking lot bbq parties and camper show-and-tell.
Memorial Day
Plenty of dispersed camping off hwy 20 between Republic and Kettle Falls in Colville National Forest.
This is why we went to Republic. There were several large burns there last year and Colville National Forest doesn't allow commercial pickers. I've never seen so many morels. It was amazing.
This is just a sample of what we found.
Cool Syncro at the Diablo Lake overlook on North Cascades Hwy. I don't regret selling mine at all. The seem so tiny inside to me now.
