The two ideas combined are exactly what I plan to do when I start my build:

1. Get the Long Range (or Long Ranger) fuel tank that mounts next to the drive shaft (on the other side from the stock tank)

2. Cut out the cubby and weld a flat sheet over it.

3. Move the muffler / get a tiny one.

4. Mount a solid water tank underneath where the cubby/muffler was.
I'm hoping to fit 10 or 15 gal under there, I need to crawl all over an 07-11 JKU to get measurements and figure out if I'll need a different rear track bar and how big it can be before changing the departure angle.
Obviously it will need a skip/protection back there.

They sell that for the 2012+ ? According to their site it won't fit a 2012. "Model Fitment: Fits All Petrol Models 4 Door Wagon (Will Not Fit 2012 Models) " I wonder if that's just the evap or something else?

I'm hesitant to cut sheet metal right now, considering the vehicle just turned over 2,000 miles. However, I really like the idea of a water tank underneath.

Water storage - Check out GenRight Offroad. It's already been done.

No idea. I'll be getting an 07-11 JKU, as I'm ditching the engine anyway.

I'm certain I can do it for a hell of a lot less than $1100. I'm expecting something in the range of $200.

GenRight stuff is generally well engineered (generally) but they'll never be accused of not being proud of everything they sell.

Yeah, that's pretty cool, just not sure I'll need 20 gallons. Looks like they've just renamed their auxiliary fuel tank.

A bit unsure on removing the factory exhaust, I like it quiet. Is there an exhaust out there that offers some added performance but doesn't add any noise?

I'm a big fan of the Dynomax Evolution Cat Back system. But it doesn't satisfy your noise requirement as it is louder than stock (though you do get a bit of a performance boost, and it gives you a bit better ground clearance as it tucks the muffler up inside the frame rails.

Matt, I'm making some mods to my exhaust and to free up some room back there as well. I was told this combination is still considered quiet, but has a deeper sound. If it's quiet enough for me, I'll share the results.

In the ad, it says the tank works with your factory fuel filler. Pretty sure I don't want to fill my water tank with the fuel filler neck. I'm guessing they did in fact just rename the fuel tank, and forgot to proofread the ad.

Or remove the muffler heat shield, and use it as a crock pot...

Definitely like the idea of installing the air compressor. The engine compartment is so cramped.
How big is that area without the plastic tray?

There is a note on their website that says you have to modify the exhaust (probably the resonator) and move the evap. there is another company called Long range automotive (www.outbackproven.com) that has something similar and only requires evap movement.

Once I get my dual battery from GENESIS OFF-ROAD installed and install an ARB fridge in the back of my JKU then I'll focus on the GEN-RIGHT 20 gal water tank...
GEN-RIGHT 20gal water tank with no loss of ground clearance and not top loaded on a rack, seams like a no brainer for me. I don't want to hack up my 2013 Jeep JKU either but once I install a fridge and or storage box I won't be able to use my trunk. Plan on doing an exhaust anyway so that isn't a problem. Where else could you put 20gal?

If you're not doing an aux gas tank, I think the best place is on the other side of the drive shaft from the regular gas tank. (where a couple of the aux. gas tanks mentioned above go).

That way the weight is extremely low, but it's also centered between the front and rear axles, rather than hanging out over the rear as in the rear cubby option.
