It's actually funny how all of you are crying for the hilux as the tacoma has been sold for 20 years now. You all act like its a new vehicle that they just recently decided to start selling. I wish I could get a 70 series land cruiser, but instead of crying on a forum, I'm going to import one and be happy and live my life , when the funds allow.

So you say a "world truck" wouldn't work here and then you post a picture of this showing us how luxurious the Hilux is? Do you really think this Hilux "wouldn't work here" despite it's bones being a little more truck like?

I guess I viewed a "world truck" as more of a spartan example I gave. Just my assumption. In the context of fluffed up Hilux sold in more affluent countries, I'm sure it would do just fine here. After all, it's just a different name, and as I see it now, essentially the same truck minus a little beefed up frame. Corp politics? I'm sure it exists on all levels. As a consumer? Don't care.

Moving on: Lots of whining and gnashing of teeth on the lack of options on other sites. Diesel, V8, bigger V6, powered seats, rear disc brakes, blah blah. Meanwhile, I'm trying to dig up any info on how spartan I can get the thing.

I like the new Taco...the front end has grown on me. I never bought a 2nd because it wasn't leap and bounds better than my 1st gen....the 3rd gen does appear to be. Finally got the engine it deserves, the interior is really slick looking. Has the power numbers that I have been looking for (according the specs that we available to us). Though you could achieve the the same with a super charger on the current engine.

I can't find any information on the base models, guessing we won't for some time. Perhaps right before they hit dealers floors. I am hearing a mid year release. Might be like when they first introduced the Tacoma in the beginning. Some were 1994.5's IIRC, yeah?

I'm hearing first allocation (i.e. orders can be placed with a dealer) in June. Not sure on the delivery but August would seem the very earliest for a June allocation. Toyota says "Fall" but perhaps August or September could count as "Fall". The Toyota fleet ordering page shows 2015 delivery windows through the end of September.

Betcha you're right. I would put my money on September at the earliest.

My suspicion is that it'll be at least August. The 1995.5 Tacoma was supposedly due to delay in production line switch over at NUMMI, so they had to run the Pickup a few months longer and push back Tacoma. It's not common for Toyota to do mid-year vehicles, it's almost always the case that a Toyota model year will be August to July. The other exception I can think of is 1978 FJ40s, which they pushed all the way to December of 1978. This was because the 1979 models were required to have catalytic converters.

Meandering Idaho
I know that we all like to talk about how weak the tacos are right out of the factory. I think for what they are they do just fine. If you want to put 4 grand in the bed buy something else, I do however Collect wood all of the time here in the mountains of Idaho. Thats my summer weekends, Load up the gear and Go. I get almost half a cord in the back of the truck since I have the topper. Mostlikely a bit over weight there with me and my gear as well. A cord of nice dry soft wood clocks in at about 2500 lbs. The rest goes on a trailer. The 4 banger handles it fine. I admit that the springs are soft, it would be nice to see something a bit beefier on the new ones. I doubt it.

With the above being said it does what I need to all day long. I drive a lot for work all over the rocky area and out to the PacNW. I needed a 4x4 rig with better clearence that I got in my Subaru that I could sleep in as needed and bring a bunch of gear with me for work. I need to be able to go over passes in the winter and get to remote areas in the summer. It does an Excelent job of delivering that just fine.
