Put the 5.7 in it and be done with it... :ylsmoke:
Does need a V8 to accompany the leather interior. OF course it will also have to have more leg room in the back seats, more elbow room and a 6' bed. Of course by that point you have a Tundra. Then Toyota would need to introduce a more economical, small truck of some sort...

LOL. Gawd...I have been reading on Tacoma World...the crap that people want on the Tacoma is mind boggling...believe those guys were breast fed too long.

And for a thread swerve. I have been looking at the early 80's HiLux and discovered this...I thought I knew Toyotas, but never heard of the Igloo Edition...the Mojave Edition yes, but not the Canada version.

It is kinda funny it seems like people expect out of a taco: small on the outside but big on the inside and huge horsepower but amazing on fuel, I agree that there's unrealistic standards. I was just saying that comparing a new Tacoma to a 1 gen tundra is not a realistic comparison. If people think they're comparable they've probably never sat in a 1 gen tundra
Igloo Edition is ************ too!

Igloo Edition is cool. Those white steel wheels are one my favorites on the Hilux and Cruisers back then. Toyota used to do some funky stuff to dress up the trucks with all the pinstripes and stuff.

Yea, very unrealistic. Not to mention all the fluff that people want. Some of the list of "demands" is quite funny, but very sad on the other hand.

Oh...I have driven both the 1st Gen Tundra and the 2nd gen Taco...very similar in size is what I am saying, you can look the specs they are pretty close (close like in horseshoes ;) )....with the new 3.5 V6 might be similar in power now.

They aren't that grossly different in size. (Now if you're comparing a 1st gen Taco to a 2nd gen Tundra...yeah wildly different animals.)

My aunts best friend's brother, for the longest time, drove a white with the blue stripes long bed...I drooled over that truck.

Looks similar to this.

Mojave Edition, case anyone's wondering.

Like this color scheme too.

Yeah, the 2nd gen Taco, 1st gen Tundra and the T100 are all about the 'right' size IMHO. I like the size of the mini truck for tooling around town or on trails, but after a couple of 8 hour back-to-back days it's a little cramped. I've had regular cab mini trucks and one of the main reasons I kept my 1991 so long with the 89+ XtraCab it just clicked. Even with IFS.

Yep agree with you there, the first three you mentioned...seem like the Goldilocks sized truck. XtraCab 6' bed works about perfect for me. I still have a hard time calling the 2nd Gens "Access Cabs" will always be XtraCabs to me...

Wouldn't mind a restored early 80's Pickup for tooling around town.

This one was on ebay a while back, sold for around $16K...which I didn't think was too bad considering the detail of restoration.

Can't find the original ebay link, but it popped on here (odd):http://car-from-uk.com/sale.php?id=93414

I even like those grey OutlawII's. I typically don't like yellow vehicles, some reason it works on old Toyotas (and air cooled VW's too!)

Guessing the new V6 is going to have 25-30 more ponies than the 4.7 V8, and torque about the same. So in a sense it is an updated 1st gen Tundra.

If the 1st Gen Tundy didn't have the Ford Sable dash, and a manny trans I would be all over it. I do like the subdued exterior style tho'.

I'll lake low end Tq, displacement, and heavier reciprocal/rotational mass any day over a high revving V-6 technological wonder. Regardless of numbers on paper, the V-8 will always have a manly, testosterone inspiring sound ... the V-6... nope, sounds like a mini van and makes one want to wear skinny jeans and listen to Bruno Mars.

And yes, the 1st gen needs a stick shift. It's not that hard to swap one in from what I have seen, I really want to do it to mine, but the auto doesn't seem to want to die quite yet. The styling is nice, nothing flashy or extreme. Mine has the TRD bumpers and flares so it looks a little different than most. I debadged it, tinted it, and got some 20's off a newer crew cab.

Although I would like a new truck (the new Colorado with a diesel is looking nice) i think I'll keep what I got. New trucks just seem to be too much needs and not enough wants.

Maybe if I was a 16 year old kid, I would care about the sound...now in my 40's I want my vehicles to be as quiet as possible, I can hear my noise errr...my 70's and 80's punk better. Who in the truck, is Bruno Mars? :D

Sure, I grew up with American V8's...today's V6's are more than enough for me. I have nothing to prove.

Lol.. yeah, the interior is well laid out and comfortable, but definitely dated. Mine is an '02 so the dash is a little different, but still, not impressive by any standards. Still better than a 1980's Gm car though...haha. The bed is also shallow and the suspension is not as stout as its American counterparts of the day if you really want to be picky.

I mean really, truth be told the 1st gens are 75% Camry and 25% truck...lol. Pretty much why I bought it though. Kind of wish I got 4 x 4 though, but that's a want certainly not a need here in Florida.

As for the V-8 vs V-6, after years driving diesels I can't get use to having to spin the crap out of a motor to get it to make power. I like to ease into the throttle and take things slow.

*The caveat to all of this is if Toyota ever shoves a diesel in a Tacoma crew cab 4 x 2, I'll probably get one once they are on the market for a few years. :)

Never understood the pining for a V8 in the Taco. I was actually happy with the 3.4L in my 1st gen Taco's. I don't tow much, but even when I did (typically trailer with 2 4wheelers and other stuff--2-3k lbs), it was enough power to get me where I wanted to go. Sure, the grunt of the V8 was nice, towing was easier, but for a "recreational truck", it doesn't make sense. Get a Raptor if you want to supplement your lack of testosterone. :)

Most likely because the 4Runner had the 4.7 briefly. to tell ya the truth those were a hoot...it would be nice to pull mountain passes in something other than 2nd or 3rd gear when loaded down. On the Interstate I can keep it spooled up, but on the 2-Lanes it is tough. That said the 3.4 is fine 99% of the time.

The new 3.5 should be a great match for the Tacoma, guessing mileage will be 18 city/24 hwy...and plenty of power on tap when you need it.
