2015/2016 New 3rd gen Tacoma Debut in Detriot

Most likely because the 4Runner had the 4.7 briefly. to tell ya the truth those were a hoot...it would be nice to pull mountain passes in something other than 2nd or 3rd gear when loaded down. On the Interstate I can keep it spooled up, but on the 2-Lanes it is tough. That said the 3.4 is fine 99% of the time.

The new 3.5 should be a great match for the Tacoma, guessing mileage will be 18 city/24 hwy...and plenty of power on tap when you need it.

Idk, my 4th gen 4Runner with the v-6 flies up the passes without any issue towing my camper. No it won't go 90, but who in there right mind will. And I live in a valley and the elevation I live is 5000 feet so anywhere I go is up hill.

Back in the day, had a 4Runner with a TRD supercharger. The whine was addicting. Premium fuel and a slight loss of MPG were not, however.

I'd like to see those MPG numbers from the new 3.5, but that's what 2.7's are getting now. I really doubt Toyota would do that to itself. The only incentive to go 2.7L might just be the upfront cost at that point. Who knows, though.

Ford's introducing the 2017 Raptor to let potential buyers know what we've known for quite some time: the Raptor will be back and it'll be new and improved.

With about a 3 year gap in production (due to the all-new aluminum bodied F-150 coming out) it's important for Ford to tell the world.

I don't need to fly up the grades like a bat out of Hell...though being able to do at least the speed limit would be nice, mine won't pull Colorado passes loaded down with all gear, pulling a moto trailer with 2 dirt bikes. We recently moved here to Idaho...what little I have done already...would be nice to have a bit more power. Just the road from Boise to Idaho City was giving it trouble...and I only had two bikes and gear bags with us.

Given that the Lexus RX 350 only gets 25 HWY...I can't imagine the Taco getting better than that.

My buddy has a bone stock 2015 Tacoma with the 2.7L, he is only getting 20 HWY.

I know the specs on the raptor will be better. Its just one of those things; not the same without a big ole honkin v8 under the hood.

Huh, will the new Raptor be able to this:

Or more to the point, without that big V8 will it be able to attract morons dumb enough to try?

Just imagine right before that happened all his buddies were probably talking him up telling him how ************ his truck is and how they know he can make it.

Never understood the pining for a V8 in the Taco. I was actually happy with the 3.4L in my 1st gen Taco's. I don't tow much, but even when I did (typically trailer with 2 4wheelers and other stuff--2-3k lbs), it was enough power to get me where I wanted to go. Sure, the grunt of the V8 was nice, towing was easier, but for a "recreational truck", it doesn't make sense. Get a Raptor if you want to supplement your lack of testosterone. :)
I think part of it is that a Taco with a V8 would probably see it's specs pushed farther than Toyota is comfortable. My buddy with the V8 Dakota tows much too large of a camper for it and I think Toyota wants the buyer to (properly I think) use the Tundra as the work horse.

x2.... Pee on Raptors and anything blue oval related :wings:

Lets see more of those old classic 79-83 trucks!

Back to the 2016 Taco, you know....the more pictures I see of it the more I l like it....AND the interior is just awesome! I'm supposed to be the resident GM guy, but I tell ya, I like the Taco much better than the Colorado/Canyon by far. Probably the biggest irks on the new Taco is the poor body line flow on the crew cab short bed and the lack of a manual shift transfercase bites too but to be expected these days. I can't wait to drive one!

LOL. Gawd...I have been reading on Tacoma World...the crap that people want on the Tacoma is mind boggling...believe those guys were breast fed too long.

That is no joke! I've been perusing Taco World lately too and really feel old reading some of those kids posts. I feel a major generation gap between me and most of those children. Notice the same theme at Toyota-4runner.org as well. A lot younger crowd in the Toyota world than I am used to.
