2015/2016 New 3rd gen Tacoma Debut in Detriot

On 91 octane the 1GR-FE with dual VVT-i will do 285 HP and 290 lb-ft. The 2UZ-FE does 270 HP and 315 lb-ft. So on paper the numbers are reasonably comparable. In the real world I have no idea.

Love our 4Runner, we do. Great truck. And the engine is quite electric in a way - seems to do well with a load.
But the torque is no comparison to an 06 4.7. So yes, I'm using seat of pants.... Paper is meaningless in the real world.

Now if only my tundra got the mileage of the 4Runner.....

That is no joke! I've been perusing Taco World lately too and really feel old reading some of those kids posts. I feel a major generation gap between me and most of those children. Notice the same theme at Toyota-4runner.org as well. A lot younger crowd in the Toyota world than I am used to.

Ha ha me too!

You can tell most of the guys on there on young and new to Toyotas, I dunno Lar...they seem like they are from the everyone gets a trophy generation, and need those 8 way powered heated seats, to reminiscence when they were being coddled in their mother's bosom :D

Read someone calling the new tan Quick Sand color not a real color, while some of us old geezers are excited to see that tan gracing a Toyota pickup once again.

When saw the '16 TRD, made me think of this Sema truck.

I think part of it is that a Taco with a V8 would probably see it's specs pushed farther than Toyota is comfortable. My buddy with the V8 Dakota tows much too large of a camper for it and I think Toyota wants the buyer to (properly I think) use the Tundra as the work horse.

People do stupid things with V6's as it is, so I wouldn't doubt it! My neighbor had a Jeep GC a few years ago (4.6, I believe) and used it to tow his 40ft trailer. He said he had a hard time keeping it under control if he went too fast on the freeway or just switching lanes. Yikes.

I was an American truck only for a long time. Then they got bailed out. I lost 100% faith in american companies after that. I wish I was a Toyota fan before. Fortunately I saw the light. :)

I've read some comments from the proponents of V8 Taco over at TW, and their argument is there would only be a 1mpg difference. I've yet to see this in real life. Bunch of jokers over there.

I'm hoping the tan is not exclusive to TRD or an upper level trim.

I somewhat agree with you...it would pull sales away from the Tundra, and push the Taco beyonds its' limits.

Toyota did however offer it the 4Runner, believe Tacoma guys felt jipped by that..but now with the new V6, feels like the planets have aligned.

It would be cool if they went a step beyond and do something Raptorish. I like the Raptor...but that thing is HUGE!

That SEMA Tacoma from a few years ago was really cool with the Land Cruiser front axle all the way down to the white steel wheels and period correct SR5 seat fabric they found in some warehouse. I agree on the tan, it is not new….it is a signature Toy color. I like it too. Anxious to see a crew cab shorty TRD Off-Road in tan. That would be my color of choice.

IIRC, in 2009 Toyota asked for a loan (bailout) from Japan.

Everything is so intertwined any more it is hard to get away from it.

I dunno, if Ford brought over the Ranger. I would consider going with a Ford. Since Toyota doesn't really do super stripped
down model any more. Ford might...

That tan sema truck was killer! Those AR23 wheels are one of my favorites. The front bumper was a fail tho'! Should of been like a Downey bumper. Total Chaos reincarnated it though...faith has been restored!

I want see that tan with a blacked out grill.

I am probably in the very low minority here, I would like to see IRS in the Tacoma...after riding in my stepdad's Highlander down a wash board road, I was convinced.

Perhaps not as radical as this, but you can see Toyota was playing with the idea, tapping into the heritage of their Trophy Truck.

They didn't get my money :) plus workers at american plants make more than workers at Toyota plants in the U.S. Because they don't have the huge retarded unions. And workers at a jeep plant were caught smoking weed and getting drunk on there lunch break. They were fired then rehired because of the Unions. Finally, American car manufacturers just make garbage :). So anyways onto the tacoma. I'm going to a car show this weekend, will this be there do you think?

I agree with ya there. Don't really want to go down that road tho'. ;)

After owning Toyotas for the past 25 years it would be hard to own anything else.

Dude, go wash your mouth out with soap, log off your computer and go to your room!

I agree on the Downy bumpers though. They would have been the icing on the cake! Of course, a manual shift transfercase would have been the cherry on top! :smiley_drive:

Ha ha! Told you I was in the low minority! Telling ya, go drive a Highlander down washboard road, it surprised me.

Or at the very least toss the linked coil sprung 4Runner rear-end in there.

They did do a manny T-Case...but auto trans. Loved that interior they did.

Can barely see the T-Case lever
