Always cracks me up how crazy people are about trucks. Lots of factors go into why a midsized truck might be a better fit for someone than a full size. Around my neck of the woods Subaru wagons are the anti CUV, the Suburbans are driven by stay at home moms who bus kids around all day for working parents. The Minivan families have 3+ kids in their house and don't camp they go to the airport and post pictures of Hawaii and Europe on their Face book wall. The only people with pickups are the hired labor that rolls into town every morning to paint, rebuild bathrooms and kitchens in the 1950's ranchers selling for over 1 million in a week with multiple bids.
I count two Tacomas and two Nissan Frontiers owned by dads who Mountain bike and have kids in HS. I will never own a Tacoma even though I really like them given the interior just fails the wife test in a huge way. The last camping trip my wife was pissed because the Sequoia Limited lacks lumbar adjustment on the front passenger seat. A diesel Canyon would probably work. HA That and the Sequoia is really larger than we need and I rarely drive it because of its size. The subaru gets driven due to mileage and its size. The Canyon would be a nice alternative to the subaru and the sequoia. If I needed a big truck I'd have one. I don't need one. I grew up with horses had family running cattle on huge ranches in Northern CA trust me I know what work trucks are and what real pickups are used for. Ever cut a 1400lb Bull out of a heard using two cutting horses and a 1978 Dodge Tophand pickup with a real Bull bar? Been there done that good thing that bar was made of solid 3/4 plate and big beefy bars, I took it off the truck years later it weighed 85lbs and all it was were two plate brackets holding a bar between them across the top just even with the hood of the truck and same width as the frame rails. I don't need a truck like that. but one that can do SF to LA getting mid to high 20's with a bed cap on the bed or even an FWC in the future would be great. One that has 4low for some steep dirt roads for some fun exploring trips great! Don't really need a trail machine per say.
