Also not to derail this thread but Lloyd's X was a late model and i think he bought it brand new and it couldn't go wheeling more than a 25 year old Montero. I really like the looks of the new X (especially the bright blue one) and i prefer a full bodied SUV over a Jeep or FJ-Cruiser and if the new Sport thing doesn't materialize or gets botched by some accountant/janitor down at MMNA I'm still going to need a new SUV (to supplement my now vintage Mitsu collection). Unfortunately the X-Terra seems to be more like a Jeep in terms of BUY THIS AWESOME 4x4!!! Disclaimer, specially prepared offroad vehicle shown. AKA every factory part was cut off and replaced with all the best parts money can buy...

Mitsu may have a double agent working as their marketing specialist and they may have some silly designer who wants to blend in with every other car maker but when it comes to trucks they don't mess around where it counts. I just want to get in my new truck, add gears, a locker or two, armor and 35's then i'm going to wheel it hard for 15 years and nothing will break unless it really deserved it. <Montero

The typical Monteros here in the Az Mitsu club are all about the same. Running on around a quarter of a million miles, beaten, mistreated, drown (even 1 in saltwater) and all on 35" tires for the last 10-15 years and still seem to be fairing better than a lot of the other guys with newer rigs. I just want a new Montero so i can have 15 year bash-a-thon with no worries other than gas, rubber and regular maintenance. Is that too much to ask?

The diffs had one spider instead of 3 I believe it was up until 06 sometime?????So any locking diff just simply exploded on use. They updated the diff, but denied the issue when anyone's exploded. You are right Toasty about your observations of that community....Mine was LIGHTLY modified and was no where near being able to do the majority of my favorite trails a near stock or lightly modified Montero would do. According to Nissan a lift kit blows diffs......:Wow1:

I priced out a base 4x4 4Runner with a few accessories like rubber floor mats and cargo tray for when I get junkyard hauls and paint protector film. 38k for my 4Runner the base Landcruiser is $80,000.00 so I guess that's a good deal? I rode in a new 4 runner though and it felt cramped even though it looks like a largish SUV. I hope Mitsubishi doesn't quit me and I really hope if they sell the new truck i'll actually like it :(

Anyone see the Official teaser video of the new Sport? :)

Well crappy American 4x4s are 45-50, Damn near everything is. I was shocked when I did my research and found the Toyota the best value, and only the Xterra as a rock bottom option. Of course I dont re-sell my vehicles, I drive them into the ground, but the Fourrunner can be sold for what we paid for months to come. Thats why used Toyotas are not usually a bargain...Especially those ridiculous Tacomas.

Is the 4Runner a Japanese car or American like those Tacomas?

Japanese. Tacomas and Tundras are the only US built cars, since they are US specific. 4Runners since the 3rd gen are on the Land Cruiser Prado platform. Also the base Land Cruiser can't really be called that. We only get the fully loaded version, so the reality is that the LC maxes at 80k. That's in line with the Patrol, although blown away by the Pajero.

What did the video say? Translates to " We have no stand out features so we will call it smooth" Not "CLASS LEADING POWER! THE WORLDS FIRST _____ 4X4 SYSTEM....." To get back in the market they have to make big moves. Look what it took Nissan, a true success story.

1. First 4dr pick ups
2. First Japanese Full Size(silly old Toyota ones of the era did not count)
3. Re-design and solid marketing of the flag ship 4x4
4. Getting every aftermarket provider on board to make parts ahead of time........

I could go on. The point is to get a share of the US market back will take bold moves like 1990-1995 Mitsubishi when they were selling like crazy and starting to get a foot hold.

1. Most rugged 4x4, initially affordable
2. Class matching HP generally
3. Most advanced 4x4 system, early rear locker adopter
4. Most advanced ABS
5. Twin Turbo Technology
6. 4 wheel steering technology
7. Super affordable and reliable small cars to balance it all out

I hope it's going to be 4x4 RSA and body on frame at an affordable price. There's enough unaffordable 4x4 on the market.

I don't care if it doesn't come with class leading or groundbreaking features as long as it's priced like the no frills SUV and built like a Mitsu truck. A rear locker would be nice but as long as it's 31 spline i can pick one up for $80, a base model with a locker is all i've ever wanted anyway. My '99 is the high model and i've had a few SR's as well as a high model Outlander, I've always wondered why Mitsubishi insists on forcing leather everything on you if you want a better stereo or locking diff. I'd like to find the guy who thought this was a good idea and lock him in my car in the summer time letting him escape within an inch of his life. Then they will think twice about their current black leather everything policy.

Hopefully they'll clean up the looks of this thing up for the US market and make it look more rugged, the new 4 runner with the chrome fascia looks almost as bad as the new Sport and Lexus GX with chrome but the color matched 4 runner looks pretty tough. The new Sport taillights are just screaming "break me", if any of you other guys know people at MMC or MMNA blow up their E-mail with suggestions to bring this thing back to earth a little. I will be.

I'm sure Mitsubishi will botch the whole deal by making a stupid move like wrapping a base model truck in leather, over chroming every piece of plastic and slapping on a 35k starting price tag for a truck that comes with NOTHING like Toyota does. At which point i'll wait a year and buy one for 10k because that's one thing we can always count on from Mitsubishi. :coffeedrink:

It's based on the new Triton so it has a frame and a rear solid axle, here's the ad for the new Triton and they make sure you know it's a truck. The new Sport has rear coils but should be mostly the same truck under an SUV body, I heard the Sport gets a supercharged V6 too.
