2016 Spring Utah Dates

I wonder how possible it would be to do part or all of the White Rim Trail or the Kokopelli Trail, maybe if you tack on an optional couple days? I know almost nothing about Moab, but yeah, all those Utah trails have me dreaming:)

Well..........Those are essentially super duper easy trails, at least White Rim. If the group preferred it over something like Pritchetts, I dont mind. Its been awhile on both for me, but longer for Pritchetts. Kokopelli is really a Mountain biking trail from Colorado to Moab, and one I have failed 3x to complete properly by 4x4 due to Mud and Snow, and with a short cut last time we sent a Montero sailing down the Dolores river. I would not try that fiasco again in the spring. La Salles would certainly not be passable regardless.

Utah is very hard to wrap your mind around at first. Its kind of like, lets take a spaceship out and explore the universe. A few hundred days will give you a pretty good idea of what is there. However, rest assured the trails I plan are some of the most interesting.

Ok, time to bring this back up to the top, under 2 months out! The Montero's SAS is going at the typical 4x4 shop speed, which is glacial. The guys helper also quit. Going to start pushing hard next week, however if its not ready we will go ahead and bring the 4 Runner. Needs a rack, and since both bumpers will get smashed we probably should swap one out before the trip. So we could be pretty much be stocking it unless this shop kicks it in gear. Always down to the wire, but making our plan Bs. At least we have plenty of time before the carnage. Speaking of carnage, I would like to propose we dedicate an evening at the Carnage each year to planning Alaska........

Anyhow who is in for this years Utah spring break?

I would be interested in going but all I would have would be my '83 diesel pickup. I may have the SAS '85 diesel pickup back up and going if the weather warms up. It needs a new battery, and a power steering pump among other things.

Thing is while Utah trails do present challenge, its not hard core for the most part. This is not the Sierra Carnage. I would recommend a rear traction aid and reasonable tires, but really thats it. SAS is supposed to be done, but if not we will bring a stock 4 runner....a very nice stock 4 runner, but stock none the less. Utah is about doing unusual things, in a unique and amazing landscape.

Just a reminder on other planned trips. We need to probably sort out Carnage dates before long. Honestly if we build a new home its going to be tough, probably earlier in July the better.

July 1st-4th 2016 -- Silverton Colorado/ Easy
Late July Early August 2016 -- Sierra Carnage Dusy South/ Very Difficult
Late July Early August 2017 -- Sierra Carnage Sierras North Barrett to Fordyce/ Extreme
August 2020 -- Great Alaskan Expedition/ Extreme
