2016 Tacoma

I don't disagree that quality has been slipping overall across the brand, they are no longer the 3rd world country serviceable yet heavily refined style vehicle. They have turned into luxury at the expense of it period.

I just compare it to lots of other vehicles and manufacturers. Perfect example: a 1500 Silverado. A vehicle that suffers just as much frame rot issues, not to mention brake lines that I've seen fail at 3 years old. Add this to ABS sensors which fail (rust lifts them out of the knuckle) which tricks the ABS module. I personally have almost ran into a few doors and building walls on road tests because the ABS thinks you are in a massive slide when really you are slowly pulling into a parking space. Needless to say that creates major safety issues. Feds didn't care because they as always (of course with good reason because GM is federally funded) have gone after Toyota for safety. Conspiracy? So yes, I agree quality is slipping but Toyota always seems to get the brunt end of the stick while everyone else continues to make **** that fails or catches fire and the feds turn a blind eye to it. It is a rather interesting market these days to say the least.

I wouldn't think twice to filming a brand new truck. I'd drill a small hole (or removal the trim panel) and grease/spray/coat everything especially at the bottom. Ditto on the rockers if they are sealed. Then just put a service plug or some RTV over the hole for next year.

The stick shift is not an insignificant reason we got a Tacoma. I don't know how much longer Toyota holds out, the market for manuals is shrinking. Young people never learned and don't care, older people can't push the clutch anymore. It's a small window of 40-somethings like us who drove nothing but stick shift Toyotas and Hondas that still want them. Car companies don't like them because it makes emissions and MPG numbers hard to meet. Honestly I'd consider an auto as the only option if it was bolted to a D4D.

I have been using my auto Trooper mainly for a commuter, I don't realize how much I like driving stick until I jump back in the Taco...."Oh yeaaah!"

I like the Tundra, (gawd damn that power is niiiiiice!) and could live with an auto...but the Taco does 90% of the things I need it to do, (which makes the Tundra over-kill for 90% of the things I do) can't seem to justify the Tundy, no manny kinda kills the small the want.

Stopped in a buddys shop today to order some t-shirts. I asked him how he was liking his tundra crew-max. He loves it except the 11mpg, occasionally as high as 13 if he babies it.

Is it a flex fuel?

I have heard that the flex fuel models have a glitch, that the sensor malfunctions and runs a rich mix on even normal gas causing poor mpg. My buddy's non-FlexFuel gets 18 hwy driving 85 mph (empty)

That is ridiculous mileage out of a new ½ ton truck when my 8000lb 1978 K10 with the aerodynamics of a drive-in movie theater screen powered modern 8.1L (with gobs more power than a Toyota 5.7L) matches (and perhaps betters) that mileage. As Clutch said 18 MPG should be more realistic. Something is wrong with that dudes truck or his driving style is sketchy at best.

I’m still anxious to see the new Taco as I am in the market for a new daily driver soon. I had my mind set on a Silverado 1500 crew cab WT1 4x4 until I drove one around S-hitcago for a week. It’s crazy how BIG ½ trucks have gotten and I don’t think I could ever get used to how stupid the throttle pedal feels. My 1989 Suburban feels smaller and more nimble than a new Silvy crew cab. And that pedal…..wow, you really must push hard on that pedal to make it go. GM needs to do more refining on the throttle pedal to throttle body plate working angles.

I like the new Colorado but on the fence regarding their styling and find the engine overly torque managed where you feel cheated out of that advertised 305 HP and LOUD (odd because that same engine in our 2014 Impala is quiet as a church mouse). I currently have a hard on for a 2015 Toyota 4Runner Trail Premium edition but also anxious to see how the new Taco turns out before I jump on a 4Runner. I will gladly forgo my GM discount for a Toyota product if I end up liking the Yotas better. Right now I am in love with the 4Runner plus the financial advisor (wife) likes the 4Runner idea too.

I think its flex fuel, and he probably drives harder than I would, but I don't think he is hammered down all the time. It has one size taller than stock Nitto tires.

As much as I say a new truck won't be my daily driver to myself...yeah it will. Have been DD them 25 years, why stop now?

With my new 50 mile round trip commute and tooling around Boise...a fullsize doesn't make much sense. Parking downtown is a little tight.

I like the 2nd gen, but isn't leaps and bounds better than my 1st gen (so never bought one)...hoping the 3rd gen will be a bit better. If they can get it around the 25 mpg mark, with decent power. I am in. 170º+ rear opening doors on the Access Cab wouldn't be bad either...

My other buddy has the FF version he gets what yours does. Didn't find about the FF glitch after he bought it. It has been to the dealer for a new sensor, still hasn't resolved the issue.

The other thing is, IIRC you can't pick different differential gear ratios in the Tundra from the factory...like you can in the domestics, so that effects the mpg.

Not really feeling that grill, but what really bugs me is the horizontal fold in the cab does not extend into the bed side. They could have transitioned better.

Looks like when people put a 3rd gen bed on early trucks. The profiles are just that little bit different.

After just 10 hours, the 2016 Tacoma has grown on me already. Maybe there will be some refinements to the sheetmetal before it hits production. I do find it funny that they leaked out the premiere photo in one of the more funkier colors.

The only thing that keeps me in a small/mid size truck is the size. I just picture a brand new full size tundra going through Big Bend Ranch or on Black Bear Pass and it kills it. Not that they couldn't make it, but they would not be my adventure vehicle of choice for those trips.
I'll be eyeballing the Tacoma fully when it hits the road, but it might be high time I start babying the miles on my 03 DC and keep it around for my kids (that I don't even have )

Flex fuel is always going to get worse MPG when running on E-85 because E-85 has less energy in it than E-10 or pure gasoline.

Hey, that pic looks like it was taken in AZ!

Yanno...it appears it has always been like that on the DCSB, maybe not as noticeable. \

where as the standard length bed flows better.

I didn't like the new Tundra when it first came out, it had to grow on me...probably be the same with this new Tacoma.

If you color code the grill it isn't half bad.

Interesting, the photo of the Double Cab you posted Clutch shows just how little it really changed. I like the wheel arches a lot better but otherwise looks like they just ran the sharpen filter on a Photoshop of the current look and gave it a nose job.

Pretty much.

I thought nose jobs are supposed to make noses smaller... :ylsmoke: Maybe they went to the breast augmenter instead.

Have you seen the new Titan's face....eee-gads! Pretty soon the grills are going to start at the roof line and end at the bottom of the bumper.
