2019 Ford Ranger Taking Orders

Ended up doing a bunch of laps around the block at the auto show in San Francisco last week. There were a few rangers out in the street. I thought they looked great. Didn’t look like the ones on the one Ford video I watched. They must’ve had the fancy models to show off. I’d run one if I could.

I know it is what it is and we've beat it to death, but I still can't get over the price. Saw a guy on another forum bragging about the good deal he got on a new ordered xlt ranger. He is paying 43k plus ttl. I can get a new F350 4x4 with the same options for that price. I know most don't want the big truck, but its still a lot more iron for the money.

Eek. That’s a lot of monies!! I love my big F350. If I was more urban I’d want a smaller rig. ... then again maybe not.

Head gaskets?

That and some electronic crap to. It was a first year ecoboost Escape and it was a piece O S. But I would hope all that is worked out by now. Then you still here of people having issues. Then you hear about some that have over 150K with no issues. I guess just hope you get a good one.

See vehicles broken along side the road all the time here. Mostly 3/4-1 ton diesels... :D:p

But yeah, reliability has gotten a lot better. Was watching a TFL video where they are talking to the Ford reps, even said that is what Toyota has and they don't. Going to take some time to build public trust.

Toyota doesn't seem to be too worried about the new comers hurting sales, they are building a third plant to boost Tacoma and Tundra production.

I do see a lot of Ford 250's and 350's on the side of the road. No aluminum ones yet though

I saw the Ranger at expo east and it is a fine looking truck. When it comes to mid size trucks there are two I like more than any other:

1. New Honda Ridgeline - drives and feels like a car, absolutely fantastic ride, but probably wouldn't make a good overland vehicle for any serious off road driver, but I don't know, just a guess. It has AWD with a switch for snow, sand, etc. If they made an AT Habitat camper for the ridgeline I'd be buying one today since I don't do hardly any off roading I would consider technical.
2. Chevy Colorado - I just like the extra option of the auto 4wd / AWD on the switch. In the winter, I can just set that switch and forget it - very nice.

I know of no other midsize truck that has an auto 4wd or AWD option which is why I like the Ridgeline and Colorado.

Hopefully the Ridgeline transmission overheating issues are fixed. Skip to 15:00 in the video.

What is hilarious is when the hood is up, like what is wrong with it can to be fixed road side. Ohhh buddy....going to take a lot more than popping the hood...

Apparently, less is indeed more :D :p

Because auto 4wd or AWD isn't needed once you have the proper tires. Even with my excessively stiff rear suspension, and well over inflated tires, I have no problems in the snow belt. I'm strongly against the auto 4wd, once I saw how it operated.

I've got no problem with true AWD, but would I be willing to give up 4 low to get it? Nope. Would I be willing to give up a reliable direct, in line, power path to the rear axle for heavy towing? Nope.

I don't think the Ridge line could handle a little camper. Seems like a lifted Accord wagon to me.

Those numbers sound good to me. The Ranger will average better economy than my Tacoma and preform better at altitude. A lot of buddies drive full-size trucks. Its more work. They are big and heavy. I wouldn't benefit from the load capacity or extra room so I will stay midsize. We travel light and don't have kids so we have less to consider than most people.

Well given the issues with GM this Ranger may be the only choice besides the dated Tacoma. Not sure how much employee dissent will find it's way onto the assembly line at the GM plants. I would hope not but you never know. I sure like that ZR2 diesel but as mentioned it's hard to give up all this reliability/certainty I currently have. (Toyota 4Runner)

Give Ford a few production years to prove they know what they're doing...buying the first 1-2 model years is never a good idea.
