When I purchased my 2021 Camp-X, the front fan cover was broken. After inspection, the only way to fix it was to replace the full fan assembly. I did this myself with not much hassle. I will note, the roof will dent from your knees. I recommend using a board or pad to distribute your weight. I am not a large guy, and I have some small deflections where I was kneeling. When replacing the front fan, I inspected the rear fan, and it was very similar looking to yours. Since I had the dicor out and open, I covered all cracks with it and have had no issues. I did not use the self-leveling Dicor.

Cool! I appreciate that input. I wasn't sure if I should use Dicor or Sika flex when replacing them, which I have decided to do. I would rather have the pc of mind to know they won't spring another leak down the road when we have forgotten about it and might replace them with style that allows fan use when raining.

The Maxxair Deluxe fans are great. Not sure if they are direct replacement (opening, wire size, etc.) but really love how they work in the real world vs the standard. The electric opening/closing is a nice feature, though the gears are a bit noisy. You can manually crank the vent open and closed if you only want it open a crack (the electric opener opens it all the way). Having a remote control is a nice touch. And there is a handy built-in light in the fan shroud. Keep in mind the Deluxe is taller when both closed and open if clearance is a concern.

If I recall you purchased a used 2021? So no warranty likely, but I will still reach out to Arnold on best replacement method. I had a full replacement done at a dealer a few months after new for the motor. They do the job but not the sturdiest of appliances.

Good Call... and I actually did that yesterday to see if they would provide any insight or technical direction. Just waiting to hear back. My local dealer said I could even go Camping World if I was in a rush to get them replaced, and that was when I was like, "ya know. I can just do it myself." The Deluxe model should work nicely They are slightly taller (and longer) closed, but not by much and all the other installation specs are the same, still a std 14x14 opening & 12V 5amp power and roof thickness required is actually less than the Maxxfan Plus.

For anyone that may ever need or want to tackle a fan replacement, direction right from the man himself.

Hello Keith,
Unfortunately, the plastic UV additive seems to be hit and miss with any of the roof fan products. This is incredibly frustrating, and we wish they would all improve their QC regarding UV protection or develop an all-aluminum housing. To add to it, they do not even provide torque specs, we have requested it and got nothing back from them other than “do not over tighten the fasteners”.

The OEV powder coated aluminum mounting flange should be issue free, outside of a reseal around them periodically upon inspection. Use a Sika 221 to re-seal the perimeter of the mount flange to the roof. Ensure the area is clean and dry prior to sealing.

The fan itself requires a product called Silaprene Solidseal. After removing the old fan, ensure the entire area is clean and dry before applying any adhesive.
Process:
- apply 2 beads of "Silaprene Solid Seal" around the wider edge of the shroud covering all the holes
- apply 1 bead around the narrow edge of the shroud covering all the holes
- Place Maxxfan on fan plate, make sure the hinge on the Maxxfan is facing towards the front of the roof
- attach using 10-24 x 5/8" Buttonhead screws (Do Not Over Tighten)
- Scrap and clean off any squish out with ISO 99%
- seal all button head screw tops

I hope this helps. Alternatively, you can take it to the closest OEV dealer or any RV dealer service center to have this done.

Arnold Baker

Retired or just tired….
@wackyhacky76CO ,, like @Chadx mentioned,, it depends on the torque,,

I use a Milwaukee 12v and it took me a couple of tries before I realized it only worked on the higher torque (lower speed) setting,, the other setting did what you are experiencing and gave up once the heavy lifting starts.

Also,, I do the same 2-3” bites off of each corner to keep the camper as level as possible during the process,,

👍😉

Just a PSA for anyone that wants or needs to replace the fans in their camper. Overall, it went pretty smoothly, but I was not able to use the Maxxair Deluxe fans as I had originally hoped. It could certainly be done, but the OEV installation design does make moving to another fan somewhat difficult without some fabrication work that I frankly decided against in the end. The mounting flange on the deluxe fans is a completely different size (in terms of mating to the OEV aluminum mounting surface) meaning the hole pattern (which is drilled & tapped) would need to be completely altered to use a Deluxe fan. Therefore, I just ended up buying the same MaxxPlus fans b/c I didn't want to get into the fab work required to do it. After 3-4" of snow fell & melted over the past wkd, I think I can safely say I no longer have any leaks, which is an incredible relief.
