Does any one have experience with this size of tire? I like the 31" height and the narrower foot print for my upcoming S10 Blazer build but I have some ?'s. First who makes this size of tire in some thing less than a load rating of "E"? If i end up going this route I think that I'll try and round up some 16x7 wheels for it as well.

I was just thiking that this size of tire would be easier to fit, have less rolling resistance and hence better fuel economy, as well as being lighter than other 31" tires. Again this should help with economy.

What do you think> Am I out in left field?

Hercules made that tire in that size, was available in Oz and I believe that was imported from USA. I used them in my Disco (335-70-16) and lasted 72000km. Performed very well.

I have been running 235's for about three months on my Tacoma and love them. This will be the size I keep from here on out for all the reasons you listed. As far as the load rating goes, yup the are E's and a little rough but the will wear like iron so I am not too worried about the ride. Plus they have great sidewall protection. I run the BFG AT's.

Ohhh plenty of experiance with that size. Its stock size that came on my 2wd 3/4 ton suburban. That's the problem for you becasue that is a size that was primarily used by HD trucks and dually's. Normally it is a size for a narrow rim as well. My Burb ran a 6.5 inch wide rim. I tried to put that size on a 8 inch rim and it handled HORRIBLE. I went ot a wider tire.

Try for this size 265x75x16. That's the same height but 3 CM wider. It would be good for a 7-8 inch wide rim. That is also a popular size tire these days and you should be able to find them in C ratings from some manufactures.

This might be a little taller then you want but BFG makes a 33x9.5x15 in a C. Same width but an inch taller. Should fit well on the stock 15's your S truck came with. That's the size I plan to eventually run on my EXPO trailer so that in a pinch I can run it on the truck in place of the 33x12.5's on it. Thought about running it as a Spare since I can get it in the stock under body location if I let the air out of it so it can squish against the hitch cross bar..

Can anyone tell me if these tires have the snowflake on the sidewall? In Oregon if you get a tire with the winter rating (snowflake) you can cross the passes without chaining up or buying studs. The 265/75/16 D range has this. The 265/75/16-E range does not. Would love to know about the 235/85/16!

I had that size tire for a few years. It is a gret size, I love it! The tire is by far the best I have had in snow and it did extremely well off-road! If I didn't go bigger I would have bought that same size in a heartbeat! I had them on my 92 Range Rover and I believe they are part of why it did so good on a few trails!

Snowflake or not, mine go like stink in the snow. Wet, dry, packed or what ever they just eat it up. The only flake mine have on them is, well actual snow. That is when it snows of course.

Well I checked and all five of mine have the snow flake. No wonder they perform so well. Oh, they are also load range E's.

I put 235/85-16 Yokohama Geolander AT-S tires on my Tacoma in December. Haven't taken it off road but they are fantastic in snow! (I think the AT-S is specifically a snow-oriented tire.)

My wheels are 7" wide, according to everyone I talked to that was fine for this tire size. I'd say go for it.

After my Utah trip in March I'll submit a supplemental report on the tires but as of now I love them!

Thanks to everyone for their responses to my question. I'm 99 % sure that when I get the S10 Blazer up and running I'll be in the hunt for some 16" wheels and then I'll get some of these 235/85R16's.
I've been looking on some of the tire manufacturers' web sites trying to get weights for these tires but it seems like they don't want to share that information. So far the only web site that I can see that has this information is Tire Rack. I've coppied a bit of it into a spread sheet so that I can compare the tires and make an educated decision. I would like to find the same information about Continental's Mud Tires as well as some of the Cooper tires.

Yokohama

Add to your list two tires Yokohama supplied to Mitsubishi for the Fuso FG. They're the Y742S (235/85R16, on current Fusos) and Y735B (7.50x16, on older models). These are load range E tires, and found in the commercial truck tire catalog.

From Yokohama's light truck catalog, the Geolander A/T+II is available in LT 235/85R16, load range E.

Gotta love Yokohama's "try it for 30 days, return for full refund" offer!
