Thanks for the info guys. I have been looking at all the options listed and all the help is much appreciated. Those swampers look great but a little too much for my daily driver needs. I had a set of buckshot mudders in 285 70 r 17 prior to my kelly tires. Loved them but they got "out of round" with still decent tread left. I was good about rotating also. Had about 30,000 miles on them so i think i did ok with them. Needed new tires especially after the lift was put on anyway. Got bit by the "practical" bug and got a set of less aggressive tires as i am unfortunately on the road more than off. The drop in road noise was incredible. Didn't realize how loud the buckies were till they were off. If anybody is looking for a good AT tire that is surprisingly good off road, check out the kelly TSR. And no I do not work for kelly tire or any of their affiliates. Thanks for the help.

RPM drop

JoshG, 3.0" equates to 1.5" +- difference rim to road and will drop rpm (s) some. If you have O/D then your rpm (s) w/255/85/16 would drop to 2,188 +- no O/D then add 25% to rpm (s).

IMHO, ideal rpm for diesel diesel 1,800 to 2,100 +- at highway speeds and make for a good all around diesel powered rig.

If you go w/3.42 and stock sized tires then you will have a people mover unless you are putting out higher than stock HP/TQ. You can expect mpg (s) to go in the crapper with larger than stock sized tires. Consider, GM 6.2 likes twin turbos, Banks has some power/torque products too.

I agree that ideal diesel rpm's are 1,800...with 4.10 gears it just isn't going to happen.

So you really think going from 245/75r16 to 255/85r16 will make my mpg worse? Even when I am reducing the rpm's over 200?

I doubt I would ever go down to 3.42 gears as I do occassionally pull a trailer and I like to be able to go off-road, so I would really like to keep the 4.10 gears...although 3.73 is an option.

My truck's engine is a 6.2 block and heads with all the stuff from a 98 6.5TD on it and a 4L80e transmission.

I run 235-85-16 BFG commercial traction in the winter and 235-85-16 Hankooks in the summer.
Next replacement time I am up sizing to 255-85-16's plenty of room with 4" of lift.

255/85 On Excursion\99-04 F250 (pics?)

I purchased an Excursion last month and it is in need of new tires. I like the look of the Toyo MT in the 255/85-16. Does any one have them on factory wheels, non lifted Excursion or 1999-2004 F250? I need a good visiual of then installed becasue I am affraid they will look to much like bicycle tires under my land yacht.

BFG KM2 will be acceptable too...

Hope this helps a little. They look small with the lift but work well on and off pavement.
