3.4L reliability

Hey guys,

Still doing some digging and am very very interested in 1 Taco in particular.
I dont know what it is but mileage of a truck always has me worried.

I am dead set on WhereTheHellIsJames?'s truck but am worried about the mileage. I would be trading from an 05 Nissan with 120,000km, to a 02 Taco with 235,000km on it.
I know it has been maintained to the utmost level and driven respectably, but it still just worries me you know.

How many k's or miles do you guys have on your 04 and older trucks/4runners?

I just clicked 160k miles. Runnin' like a champ, and have no worries about another 160.

I do take very good care of my truck, though. When you're looking at a used truck, don't shop for vehicles... shop for owners.

As for the 3.4? Amazing. A legend in its own time.

6string,

Your truck is actually one of the ones I looked at when looking for mine. Its a beauty!!
I totally agree about shopping for owners. Mileage is useless if it was drove into the ground. Hence why I am looking into James truck. He is an awesome guy who has an awesome truck. I just hope that with the fee's to get it up to Canada I wont get screwed too hard...

*fingers crossed*

I have a 1996 T100 with the same 3.4 liter engine, that has 175,000 miles on it. I knew the previous owner, and I know he kept up on maintenance, so I have every confidence the engine will go to 250k or more.

I bought a 99 Runner with 213xxx miles on it this summer, now it has 218xxx miles on it. I did have to replace the lower ball joints on it but other then that it has been great. I think I am more worried about my suspension components rather then my engine, with my truck in particular. Yotas last!

The 3.4L is the least of my conerns with a high mileage Tacoma. Ball joints, steering rack, rear differential, power steering pumps, CV shafts and rear driveshaft carriers will all be far more likely in need of attention than the 3.4L

My old 96' ExCab has ~220k, had 180k when I sold it. Zero engine problems. My current 04' DC is just about at 100k, SC'ed since day one with zero engine issues (other than some fault throttle body units that were coverered under warranty).

I wouldn't worry at all if it has been taken care of. I have heard Toyota service reps say they've seen 4Runners/Tacomas with over 400k miles! I would even go as far as to say it's one of the most reliable motors Toyota has produced.

I have about 225,000 miles on my '01 Tacoma with the 3.4 V6. Timing belts at 120,000 and at 200,000 water pumps at the same time. No Problems related to the powerplant at all.

Years from now, when we are dead and gone... the roaches will be driving little Toyotas with 3.4s. :costumed-smiley-007

Best forum ever. You guys definately know how to make a guy feel better about it. This thing was maintained very well judging by the owner and the pictures. James has been a super good guy and I absolutely cannot wait to get this sorted and finished!!!:wings:

I have never worried about my 3.4!

64K on mine....

If you do your maintenance you will be fine!

Oldsven has 174K plus on a supercharged 3.4.......

Kurt's words are key! Other things to worry about!

These 3.4's are great motors!

It all hinges on the bank right now. If that goes through I just have to get the paperwork in order for the border guys and a flight to portland.

I will take as many pictures on the way home as I can, I have a 1,500km journey to start the first day I get it :wings:

Thanks a TON guys!!
