3 Kids, a Hearing Dog & Us: Headed South Part 2

2014 began and ended in Mexico for us. In between the two New Year's, we moved into a yurt on the Lost Coast of California, learned to skin deer, eat bear, harvest fruit, drive switchbacks in the pouring rain for two hours for weekly supplies, use an outhouse and life off the grid. The personal summary of the year is here: A Wild Ride

Welcome to our home! A post on the evolution of our rigs, including what we are currently using. If you have questions about technical stuff - what Mikey did to the trucks, the solar panels, etc, please comment on the blog and he'll respond (note: he's a mechanic - he did absolutely everything himself) http://www.meriahnichols.com/rig/

Loving the blog! It's going to take a while to catch up on all of it. I envy you guys. We're still 5 years out from full time travel.

A hearing dog is trained to alert it's companion to specific sounds. It's different for everyone - for some people, it's alarms, phone ringing, etc, for other's, it's someone calling your name. My dog was trained for about 2 years in general commands, then 6 months in hearing-specific ones - lots more information on http://www.cci.org :) (and thank you for asking)
