33"s with stock gearing?

Box Rocket, you brought up a good point that I have been wondering. What is the benefit of running wider tires? I know wider is better for the sand. I was thinking of getting 33X10.5x15 tires. For one, I like my stock wheels and didn't see the need to get new wheels if I didn't need to; two, was thinking that the narrower tires will be easier to fit in the fender wells without as much modification or fiberglass fenders and third the narrow tires will be better for the trails. But, I have noticed a few builds, you and blackdawg come to mind at the moment, that run wider tires.

the 33x1050's will definitely fit easier. They really are a great size tire on a Tacoma with 2-2.5" lift. When it was time to replace my 33x1050s, I wanted to try the MTR which isn't available in the narrower size. Not too many are. Almost without exception I've preferred the wider tire. Only downside I have felt is more rolling resistence which creates a hit to mpg. The wider tires gave a "heavier" feel to the steering which I like. On a mildly wheeled "overland" rig the narrower tires would be great. For what I end up doing which is a mix of overland type wheeling and some rock crawling the wider tires have been slightly better and have a more stable feel for sure.

I dunno, I am running the same amount of lift as you (don't even consider it a major mod, pretty basic actually)...I don't really see that much difference. Other than I can drive it just a tad faster without it wallowing, but it still has limits, which I can push it beyond those limits pretty quick.

Now if you go the rock crawler and sas it, with huge amounts of articulation...or the prerunner route...with LT front suspension, and lop of the rear of the frame and link it...yeah now there is huge amount of offroad performance gained.

2-3" lift though...meh, just splitting hairs...performance gain is minimal at best. I can take a stock vehicle through the same places...and have.

I can't disagree completely. But the OME setup is so much better than stock suspension. Handles very well in the dirt, in the rocks and load capacity is vastly improved. I know it's not a huge jump, but definitely more than splitting hairs. The other extremes of full long-travel or Solid axle swap are one extreme to another with the suspension built primarily for one purpose in mind, either going fast or flexing like mad in the rocks. Most people don't want to completely commit to one way or another.

It is a little better, but it isn't like you can go soooo many more places because of it. I am hauling the same load and going to the same places now, as when it was stock. Nothing to get too excited about, I am running Camburg CO's...they're good, perhaps a little better than OME's...but not pants wetting good.

My wheels are stock and if I remember correctly, they are 7" wide, so I would need to get new wheels that are wider for the 32s. I think, that I am going to stick with the 31s for now, until after I get the suspension they way I want it with new springs all around and re-gear. I do like the peppiness of it the way it is, so I don't want to loose it by getting the 33s without re-gearing.

I ran 285s on 7" rims down to 15 PSI, no problem. You don't necessarily need wider rims unless you want to run super low tire pressure, in which case you need beadlocks anyway.

Watch out for load range too. Last time i looked for the BFG ATs, they were only making LT or E, but maybe that was just due to the size i was looking at. You don't want to go above a D in your truck.

OK, everyone can get back to highjacking now.

Getting more places has only a little to do with suspension. Tires, lockers and DRIVER are much more a factor in getting somewhere than suspension.

I'll stick with the 33X10.5, then since I don't plan on rock crawling with my truck just overlanding.
