37 on stock quigley

I'm sure I'll have plenty of extra parts at the end of this. Like a 7.3 powerstroke, tranny, rear end and assorted leftovers!!!

I hope to sell off anything of reasonable valve to help fund the project

Too bad it is the same dash style as yours flight canceled otherwise you could try swapping it!!

Yeah the right side is always scrapped in these builds. At least that's done. What is your floor made of?

How's it looking for fitting those 37s?

Whats the stats on that powerstroke?

I think I will be ok with the 37's. It really depends on the articulation. The bottom part of the wheel well can easily be opened up only part of it extends up into the box.

The 7.3 has high miles. I drove it home about 1.5 hrs. Ran good, but not as much power as my other power stroke. Not sure why. Maybe external like a fuel pressure or turbo issue. I would be hesitant to swap it into anything without having it gone through by someone who really knows powerstrokes. It is also much more difficult to start than my other one. It was sitting unused for several months before I picked it up.

Mike who is also on this forum may have more insight to its history. He said it ran well when he got it.

My 7.3 wants to run regularly otherwise it gets cranky. It probably took 4 hours of highway driving to get it back to being happy, and another 3 the next day to really shake it loose after not running for a while.

I would hold on to the alternators, one of us will need at least one. I would be interested in a maintainer too maybe.

Hey CJKen,

Not sure if you got my PM but if you're interested to sell the mirrors (since it looks you already have some nice ones) I'd be interested in starting to contribute to you project funding ;)
I might also take the headlights since I have the square style and I'm sure I can come up with more funding options...

Cheers,
Mr. D

Great to see so many ambulance builds on here. All the wiring info in the belafonte and Black Friday threads will definitely help me out!!

A few questions::
Anyone have good info on this inverter?? It's what I got so I plan on running with it.

What are these devices on the coolant lines with the red wires??

Trying to plan out how to best use my external compartments.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1393738360.928622.jpg

The main systems I meet to layout and fit are:

1. House batteries, inverter, possibly solar on roof.

2. Air compressor and tank. There are some brackets under the box that held some kind of tank at one time.

3. Heating, cooling

4. Water system (just want to be able to hook up a hose externally and pump water from a tank through it.) also possibly heat the water through some kind of heat exchanger.

I also have this spare tire compartment that I can use.

I like some of the couch/bed ideas i have seen, but may try to keep it simple with some kind if platform that can fold up against the right wall when not in use and can hold a mattress when folded down for camping. I want to try to retain the versatility of the empty box for local use. You never know what you may have to carry around.

Are those wires in the coolant lines related to the rear box heat exchanger system?

I'm going to guess those aren't wires, but rather vacuum lines?

I see you've H1 rims on your other chassis. How do you think this is going to work out once you get the box over that SRW axle? Was you planning on sticking with that? Does your front axle have spacers on it? It seems like the lockout hubs don't stick out as far as usual on a front axle, so that's why I'm guessing its spaced.

I'm trying to figure out my axle direction on my build, and my head's about ready to explode.

Yes they are vacuum lines. Good call on that!!
Not quite sure how they work.

The front axle has dually front hubs. The h1 rims had enough back spacing to allow me to leave the front hubs alone.
I plan to stick with that rim and tire set up for the time being.

Good luck with your axle search

Got to see the beast in person! Thanks again Ken!

Just a thought, but if the h1 rims will fit on the donor ambo maybe you can lessen or eliminate having to jack the box up for the transfer by swapping tires around.

Put the 37s on the donor, drive onto blocks.
Prop in place and put on the smallest tires you have and loose the blocks.
Put the small tires on the quigley and back in.
Swap to 37s and jack the frame into the box.

Seems to me that raising the frame will be easier than lowering the box.

I'm still curious if the set of connections by the looped coolant line was for the AC. Can't think of anything else it could be. Odd that the AC has valves, but the coolant doesn't.

Personally, I like the H1 rims. I know they're heavy but that doesn't bother me. I have a recentered set on a J-truck I'm doing and I like the look, plus the tires for them in the size I want are plentiful and readily available at decent pricing. Problem is I don't think I can run them in a dually config other than the dually front axle. I don't think they'd fly on a dually rear.

Next thought is "ok, change out the axles to SRW config front and rear. Problem with THAT (I think) is running a stock H1 rim is going to offset the rear tire WAY inside from where the factory outside dual sits.

Next next thought is "ok, go ahead and have the rims recentered", but I'm not sure even that is going to put the tire back in it's more or less factory position.

Next next NEXT thought is SRW front axle, dually rear axle, recenter the rims for a 4.5" backspace, and run the dually axle in a SRW config. I "think" this might keep the tire close to it's factory position, given that the tire is going a be a couple three inches wider than the factory.

This has been giving me a literal headache for days. For some reason I just can't quite wrap my head around how to get where I want to be. I want a 36-37" tire. I'd rather run the dually axles. I don't think I can do it in the rear without having to add so much spacer I end up way too wide in the back. I'm willing to run SRW in the back, but dont know for sure how to go about it to get the right track width.

Grrrrr.

Here is a pic of the coolant and ac lines
