37 on stock quigley

I believe that re centered 4.5" back spacing will bring the track widths to match. Or 2.5" spacers
Right now rear is 5" narrower

Thanks Ken! Yeah it turns out I have AC lines running into my box unit from... I don't know where yet. Should be interesting. Like we said, there has to be a condenser somewhere else for the box AC to work (right!?)

No idea how it didn't occur to me last week that there were 4 lines not 2, but I hadn't had a reason to question it yet.

I am totally jealous of the quigley and how smoothly both your rigs fire up.

Trying to loosen up box. It is attached with big bolts with 1-1/16 nuts. Can't seem to break them loose.
Will try heat and a bigger impact wrench.
Two of the bolts are hard to access. They are next to the fuel tank. Think I will have to drain and drop tank to access.
Unless anyone has a better idea. I have no idea how they got them in there!!!
My other box would have been easier to swap. It does not use the body mounts, but sits on the frame rails and clamps down.

Hoping I can loosen the bolts without extreme measures.

Was planning on running rear spacers to match track width.
Probably still will, but the pic of the broken axle in Baja makes me worried. Looks like there may be a thick spacer on the rear since the hub appears to not stuck out very far. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1394380539.959338.jpg

Even with spacers I think my load will be more centered over the berings since my rims have 7" of back spacing.

Why does everyone want to match the track width, front to rear? In stock configuration an E series van is almost 3 inches wider in the front than the rear. We build race trucks with wider front track widths. Both stock and custom are done this way so that they track better and drive straighter. Do you really want both front and rear following the same rain grooves down the interstate or the same rut down a dirt road?

The hub did not have a wheel spacer on it. It is a FORD Sterling 10.5" FF and their hubs do not stick out as much as the Dana 60 you are comparing it to.

I watched my (backwoods) boss break a nut like that using a breaker bar and a 10' section of pipe. The trick to it was a second person giving the head of the socket harder and harder taps until it popped.
Where did you find that photo? I'd like to read that thread.

When you got your ambo registered did they say anything about the "clearance" lights? The little red or amber lights that show where the top of the box are? I am thinking about tearing mine off but I don't want to have them turn out to be a legal requirement.

Will try to tackle the nuts this week. Gotta get a wrench on top to hold the bolt. The whole thing is spinning in the mount now.

I don't know about those lights on the box neither of the registered ones have those. Mike gave me amber covers for them so I don't think it will be a problem!!
Did get a ticket in my black ambo this summer cause if the red lights. They are covered up now.
They don't see the truck when you register it anyway.

Thanks Ramsey for the advice. I don't have any experience off road racing. I do really appreciate your perspective and expertise.
My thinking was that since the ambo box is wider, a wider track would offer more stability but again don't have the practical knowledge or experience!!
I never thought about the tracking in ruts.
What about sand?? Is an offset track advantageous there as well?? I think that a good deal of my 4x4 driving will be on sand. We also get a fair amount of snow here.
I made it down to San Carlos several times for surfing and windsurfing back in the late 90's, but realistically that is not the kind of travel I will be doing in the near future.

I'd think that an ambo would have different properties on sand than normal. Unlike a more balanced, lighter truck, the back is going to want to sink, especially with a mini-mod. If you aren't tracking with the rear wheels in your rut you aren't going to bog down as far. Plus once the back starts sinking more and more weight will go onto the rear axel.

I was hoping to avoid torching any if the bolts. 3 of the 12 were not budging so it became necessary.
On the bright side the box is free from the frame!!! Just need to disconnect the ac and coolant lines.
Then build some solid supports to hold up the box. No way I'm crawling under there the way it sits!!

The Ambo with the broken axle above has the stock Dana 80 rear axle. No spacer, those wheels are just really thick!

Box now completely free

The ac lines to the box were easy. They have shut off valves on each side of the system to retain the refrigerant.

On hold now until I can get rear bumper mounts welded on frame. I lopped off the last foot or so of the fo at frame. Since my cab and chassis is missing a few inches of frame. My thinking is to have the rear section of dinar frame attached to mine right behind the last or second to last body mount.

Scored a generator for $300
Guy said it was not starting. When I went to see it it was making a terrible sound like the starter was grinding. I figured I would take a risk.

Opened it up at home. Plastic starter gear stripped.

If that is the only problem it should be an easy fix.
Guy said it ran fine before it just would not start. You never know, but I hope it works out.
Motor turns freely and it looks pretty clean inside.
Fingers crossed
