Thanks for all the ideas/advice!!!

I actually have amber markers for the top front corners of the box.
Would definitely like to retain the light bar and turn it into a led flood light. Having a hard time locating all clear lenses for it.

So far the tires are clearing the box. I need to test it out on some rougher terrain to be sure. Worst case I can trim a bit.

Has anyone done any kind of swing away tire carrier???
I may go the roof mount direction, but those h1 tires and rims are really heavy!!!! Also I want to keep at least one side of the top clear for windsurf, surf and other assorted boards.
I was thinking a carrier that can bolt right to the box and swing away like my old
scrambler carrier just beefier!!

Oh you ment the red light above the front wheels. Yes I hope they are not a problem. Maybe I will find amber covers for them. Whelen 73's I think

I haven't seen a swing away of any sort on these. If I remember right there is no way one will stuff between the frame rails, but what if you extended the "apron" bottom of a compartment where it extends below the floor all the way to the frame? There's a chance that could work. More plausible in my monster box than a mini-mod though. I'm guess it would at least stuff a 33 or something a little smaller.

If the tires don't clear couldn't you just add spacers in the frame?

I think my coworker will be down your way next week. I'll make sure these make it for the ride down.

Awesome!!
Thank you Alex.

No way the spare is fitting in that compartment. It actually already extends down to the bottom if the box. It is only 11" wide.

I plan to hang the onan generator between the rear frame rails. The space there is about perfect for it.

Have a lot of work to do, but it is nice to finally have it drivable with the box on!! Feeling good about that.

I'm undecided between these and a standard ladder. I like the thought that they're fold away, but I'm not sure how it's going to "feel" trying to climb up these vs a ladder. What's your thoughts?

Haha. I was thinking something like that. What about possibly mounting them in the back so at least you have the bumper as a nice first step.
I consider myself somewhat agile and am up for the challenge.

That was my first thought. I quickly decided that I wanted (other people I don't totally trust) to be climbing as far from the lights as possible. Finding your footing when coming down from the roof is a little touch and go so it would be easy to smash a light.

Right now I just flip the steps down and climb up the tire.

Well, have you ever gone indoor rock climbing? It's just like that.

If god had meant for man to go around climbing rocks he would've...he would've.... He'd have put stairs in the dang things! :)

I did end up with an idea though. I like the steps, just not crazy about no hand rail. I think what I might do is use those foldups, and towards the top mount a couple of short vertical hand rails, one to each side. I figure coming down off the top is the most critical juncture and dropping off the edge is a good time to have something to grap onto that one of your feet is not also trying to occupy. Gets rid of the full ladder look but still offers a modicum of safety at the best time.

Any of you ambulance gurus have any idea of where to get clear lenses for this thing??
Whelen advantedge 4000.
I can't seem to find much info.
Are the 9000 or 4500 lenses compatible??

Do you still have the H1 tires/wheels on there? I lost track. If so i'd love to have some good clearance pics and axle info. I really like the H1 look but I'm concerned about clearances.

Yes. I still have the h1's on it.
I'll try to get some clearance pictures this weekend.

Mine has a Dana 60 front axle with dually hubs. Rear Dana 80 with drum brakes. I don't think you could run them on a SRW front axle un less you had the rims re centered. I did end up having to run a 2.5 inch rear spacer on the rears. With out the tires were really close to hitting the inner wheel well.
Keep in mind my box is narrow from a SRW mini-mod ambulance. I was going to get recentered rims for the rear but got some heavy steel, hub-centric spacers. This way I can run the same rims all around.

It is a quigley. Not a ton of suspension travel which is why I seem to be getting away with such little lift.

Every once in a while I get a slight rub at full right turn on rough terrain. I plan to track that down and trim if necessary. I am somewhat limited to fender trimming as quigleys don't like to be lifted. I did a crappy job trimming fronts as I was in kind of a rush to get it drivable with the larger tires. I figure I can clean it up once I get everything sorted out.

I'm guessing that you will go with a ujoint kit for 4x4.
I would bet that you could do the 6" kit and a bit of trimming to get the 37's to fit.
The ambo is already so tall that I think you want to go as low lift as possible to fit your tires.
I've been driving around with the box on all week and it feel really good. It rides a lot better now with some mass on the back.

Excellent, thanks a bunch. Is the D-80 from the same donor as the front, or did it come with the van?

I'd be willing to bet I could get by with 4". Clearance wise the front seems to have plenty with 4", but apparently the steering geometry is where things get tight. The rear, I'm perfectly fine with taking a sawzall to the fender well. I run 37 /12.5 goodyears on a jeep cj with nothing more than a SOA lift which nets about 5.5"-6" of lift. The rest is fender massaging, but in the end it just looks like a factory jeep tj.
