So did toyota make any 4x4 runners with the 2.7 and if so any with a manual trans. I know the manuals are rare and stopped around 2000. However the reg cab truck is going to nee to xpand so I am looking at possible options for a truck to move all my stuff over.

A few have come up in the classified section of this board in the last year. ExPo'ers seem to recognize their rarity and post the ones they find for sale. Good luck on your search!

When I saw the title I immediately thought of the few 1990 2 door 4Runners ever imported (I have only ever seen one in person)... or the uber rare Toyota Trailblazer.

They be some rare unicorns for sure :ylsmoke:

Trailblazer?? Is that the same as a Trekker? Never heard of a Trailblazer in the Toyota stable..

I have a 2000 4Runner 2.7 with a manual trans. I bought it last summer and have not looked back since! :smiley_drive:

There are a bunch of 2dr toyota second gen 4runners in wa. Honestly I think the 3.4 4runner with the auto tranny is a tank. There are lots of them for sale.

Trekkers and Trailblazers

The Toyota Trekker was a conversion done by Winnebago, very rare truck:

The Toyota Trailblazer was a conversion done by Griffith, uber rare truck:

Bothe were ahead of their time and as a result of these collaborations the 4Runner was born :)

Rare 1990-92 Toyota 4Runner 2 Door

Here is a great thread with pics of the uber rare NA spec Gen II 2 door 4Runner:

http://yotatech.com/f116/1990-2-door-4-runner-rare-31590/

From Wiki:
"Nearly all second generation 4Runners were 4-door models; however, from 1989 to 1992, a 2-door model was also produced. These models are similar to the 4-door models of the time in that the bodies were formed as a single unit, instead of the fiberglass tops used in the first-generation 4Runners. Two-door 4Runners from this era are extremely rare, and were discontinued in August 1992, probably due to higher importation duties and owner insurance costs."

Thanks for all the replies guys. I thought that would be the case. I have already found a few clean ones with the V-6 and manual and it is an option. I have just been super happy with 20 mpg out of my taco witht at engine trans combo and see no reason wy the 4runner wouldn't produce equal power and economy stats.

I've seen more than a few 2nd gen 2 doors. They're not common but neither are they super-rare, at least not around here.

Of course, here in the Denver area you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a couple dozen Toyota 4x4s so maybe that's why.

What do you want to move over from your truck? Engine stuff? Keep in mind the 4runner will have rear coils instead of leaves if that is part of the equation. (different shocks too)

Also, according to Edmunds.com the mpg difference is only 1mpg between the I4 and V6.
