I have no idea why Toyota put that silly little pop-out pocket at the base of the center stack (under the HVAC controls.) It's too small to hold a checkbook or even a decent sized notebook and too flimsy to hold anything substantial. For a while I was keeping my garage door controller in there but now that sits in the center console.

Any ideas? I'd like to rig up a mount for the GPS down there, what would be really slick would be if I could "hard wire" the GPS so that I didn't have to use up a 12v socket (since there are only 2 in the center console anyway vs. 3 on my 3rd gen.)

Do 2nd gen Tacos have that stupid little thing?

How far does it open?

EDIT: Nevermind...

A ScanGauge mount maybe? That or loose change is all that I can see fitting in that pop-out. Otherwise pull the darn thing altogether and fab up a trim piece for whatever you put there. A blank plate would almost be as useful...

Scangauge is already mounted on top of the steering column (works great there and all the wiring hides behind the instrument panel.) The pocket itself just pops out. I tried sticking my GPS mount there but the suction cup wouldn't hold. Surprisingly, even though it's mounted far down on the console, my GPS unit seems to be able to "See" the satellites just fine. All I need to do now is rig up some kind of mount that will allow me to angle the display up towards me. Would like to use plastic or metal but wood is easier to work with. Hmmmm....
