4Wheel Parts Partners with BlueRibbon Coalition

Part of the reason I do not support the BRC is that their views are not in line with mine. In another thread in this forum, there was pretty wide agreement that we should keep our lands beautiful for our generation and future generations. However it is very hard for me to believe that the BRC really supports this goal as it is supported by ExxonMobile, Boise Cascade and several mining companies. The BRC appears to me to be a front for a bunch of extractive industries and 4wheeler manufacturers, and at the same time as being pro-access seem to be anti-conservation. Compare this to organizations such as Tread Lightly which are supported by a broad base of industries (and not extractive industries).

BRC is backed by Exxon, Boise Cascade and several mining companies??? What??? News to me. BRC has the same supporters as Tread Lightly! It's all online and easily accessible information if you want to know the truth. This misleading information doesn't do any of us any good. All of us here on this forum use our public lands to wheel on, camp on, fish on etc.

BRC does conserve, speaking from my point of view, we as volunteers and land use advocates do our best to conserve what is left of our public lands for those of us who choose motorized recreation as their form of getting their families and friends out there to enjoy our freedoms and wonderous public lands. I personally don't agree with locking up the gates so that only a select few can ever, ever see those wonderous treasures. That's not preservation, that is stealing our heritage!!

btw. BRC isn't really active in the east. United 4 wheel ***. kind of does that. they have had their own problems as of the last few years.. not sure how it's really going to shake out.

Really? :Wow1:

Those of us on the Rescue Tellico committee have found both United AND BlueRibbon to be extremely helpful.

BRC only gets involved in the east when the issue is major. i sure have never seen them involved with anything else beside Tellico out east. although i think they may have stepped it up when UFWDA started to flounder.

I don't want this to degenerate into a he said, she said kind of debate but even their own list of current supporters provided above includes several mining, drilling and logging companies. Unless BRC is miss-representing their own supporters, it is not really up for debate.

From the second part of your post, you would get the impression that 90% of public land in the lower 48 was closed to motorized travel and we were limited to some small fraction. In which case I would agree that it is totally unfair. However in reality it is the other way around, only ~10% of public land is explicitly closed to motorized use (wilderness WSA etc) and the rest has no such designation, which I think is totally unfair.

Good for 4WP. Not that their high on my list of suppliers.

Its funny people don't like some of the contributors to BRC. But have no problem with the donors to environmental organizations like the pew foundation and other radically anti access groups.

The Access Army was created to have fun with AND is NOT a BlueRibbon Coalition thing or idea. It is simply a way for people to loosely get together and have fun, get a cool title and rank and hopefully do something in their neck of the woods when an issue comes up or at least get the help they need.

Del Albright did a good job creating this whole thing and I'm proud to say that I am a member of the Access Army. There are several people that are very productive in the off road world and are some of the same people who have started "friends of" type groups and put together very successful work parties to keep up and maintain trails; they are also part of the Access Army so come on out and have some fun with us :victory:

On another note, BlueRibbon Coalition also has a gift card through Rocky Mtn ATV-MC for those of you that have those hanging around in your toy collection. Offer expires next week so hurry up and get your $25 gift card www.sharetrails.org

Apart from being a volunteers with BRC, what is your relationship with this group? And what is your relationship to/with Del Albright?

Thank you Martyn for the introduction. I would have answered your question myself if it hadn't been dinner time :chef:

Yes, I am Del Albright's wife and we are the "Kickin' Access Team" hence the name of our internet network of KAT Team (Kickin' Access Technology Team). These are members who forward alerts and important information about land use issues around the country.

It is an effective way to get infomation out there that concerns all of us as public land users. Other organizations have very similiar forms of communication, sooooo......there it is.

I mention this because I've seen our KAT Team brought up in other discussions around this forum and it needed to be clarified just like the Access Army which, by the way, was completely built by Del on his own time and dime. Check it out here: http://www.accessarmy.com/

A full disclosure in your signature would have been nice, that way we could have put your message into context.

After looking at the posts here (and on other threads) I see that several of them don't have "disclosures" in their sig lines.

Please note that I have made only a few comments here in this more than friendly forum. Perhaps if more people felt welcome they would put the time and energy into putting more into their signature.

Time to move on :coffee:

As a person with a vested interest in the subject it only seems fair that you disclose who you are and what your relationship is to the organization being discussed.

Right or wrong this thread is another good illustration of why access groups are constantly behind. While all the eco/conservation groups can get behind the guy that thinks the Maine black fly is an endangered species, the access groups are too busy fighting about the proper way to use a Hi-Lift. There is still no consistant strategy, message or goal as a group.:(

In researching the BRC and UFWDA, I was shocked at the way some of their top leadership addresses the issues of access, wilderness, and regulation. Surf some of the other forums out there and look at what these "leaders" are saying behind the scenes before you send them your support. You may be suprised with what you read and see going on out there.

It is unfortunate a moderate and responsible group does not address these issues. I fear overlanders will probably suffer due to the actions of extreme access groups as they become less in touch with middle America. OHV access groups need to find middleground with both OHV users and wilderness advocates if they expect to get anywhere.

instead of constantly complaining about a lack of "middle ground" organizations why don't you start one?
