Was telling a young engineer at work about the transfercase, and he said what is that? So I explained what it is and what it does and he was amazed that I took it apart with no training or instructions, but the part of his questions that stuck with me was he asked how much money have I saved by doing all this work myself rather than paying to have it done.

You know that is a tough question, building and installing and engine, replacing a transmission and wiring in a computer to control it, rebuilding a t case, custom cross member, new exhaust, and cant even guess what it would have cost for the gauge cluster!! All that an more of course, that would be a ton of labor charges, not to mention finding someone who would do it the way I would want it done. I guess that is why most sane people just buy a new vehicle, there is no way it is feesabile to pay some one to do all the work and not be way upside down in value.

Warwgn you have the right attitude. Anybody can just buy a rig. Few can repair and rebuild their own stuff. Many people ask why I put so much money into an old 79 Chevy. Well the experience you learn can not be bought at any price. If the person I am talking to still cant understand what I am trying to tell them I usually end up saying.... `Some people spend thousands of dollars standing on a corner smoking a crack pipe, I spend thousands of dollars and get a cool rig! You see, no brainer!´ :Wow1:

Well said and done you guys. I cannot imagine the money I would have spent had I paid someone or what I would have missed out on learning for myself. Warwgn, nice job! This rig is coming together nicely.

Little something extra from summit racing showed up today.

before

and after

and the cooling lines and trans oil temp sender before

and after

and at the trans

still got to get it all tied up but it's plumed anyway. Pressure line goes into the radiator come out to the first temp sender then into the auxiliary cooler then into the auxiliary filter then back to the trans. I also have a temp sender in the trans pan and will connect a 3 way switch so I can toggle between the temp coming out of the radiator and the temp in the pan.

Nice and clean looking work. I like you air cleaner. I went with the black and aluminum cover myself. It matched my valve covers. Keep posting. Cheers, Chilli....

Warwgn, did your radiator have the late model quick connect transmission cooler fittings originally, or did it have threaded fittings that you adapted to AN? Thanks.

Does your transmission controller use the transmission output speed sensor (TOSS) on the side of the transmission for the speed sensing, or does your transfer case have a speed sensor in it that you will be using? Will you be inputting to your controller that you are in 4WD? Thanks.

Yes it does connect to the TOSS, the 4L80E has a TISS and TOSS and the controller harness hooks to the main connector and the TOSS at the back of the trans. The software does have something in it about 4X4 but have not read it yet so not sure what I will do with that yet. I did read in the instructions it has a switch that allows me to save 2 calibrations so can have a race mode and grocery getter mode, or tow/haul mode and regular. purdy cool stuff. Has a few other cool options like manual shift signals for use with paddle shifters or push button and stuff I wont use.

I should be starting to play with it by this weekend or before, I will be off work real early tomorrow and if the input shaft arrives today I will build up the tcase tonight and put it in tomorrow, which reminds me I need to extend the shift rod linkage by 2" for the tcase, so migt do that tonight as well but prolly wait till it's back in the truck just to make sure of the measurement.

Well got it back in and drive shaft installed, speedo sender hooked up and the tcase shifter works perfect. And a couple extra pics of the harness conected s and can see the cable shifter for the B&m shifter.

gonna have to weld the crossover pipe back in after I get it drive able so I can pull it close enough to the welder. Now just need to bolt up the torque converter and supply power and ground to the computer and connect the wire to the TPS sensor, then start adding fluid and she will be ready to start tuning.
