91 v2500 Suburban build

Now that I'm getting close to finishing my suburban I figured it would be a good time to start a build thread.

It started out as a special order tva transport vehicle. It's a 1991 v2500 Scottsdale with 5.7 350 4L80E auto and 3.73 gears. Here's some pictures of what it started out as in 2016.

I started out with doing a 4 inch lift with some old trail master springs I had got on a trade. I used some off road designs zero rates to move the front axle forward 1 inch and the trail master springs in the front. For the rear I went with an offroad design 4 inch shackle flip. I also got some H1 wheels for cheap to run for a little while.

I ended up finding another set of h1 wheels with brand new BFG Bajas on them. Then went ahead and ordered some trail worthy fab inserts for them.

At this point I removed both front and rear axles and the suburban sat in my garage for about 1.5 years while I built axles.

I wish I would have taken pictures of the axles before I started on them but anyway the axles are a Dana 44 hd front and a corporate 14 bolt full float rear. I wanted to find a Dana 60 but in my area they are going for around 1500 for an axle that needs to be rebuilt.

I finished the rear axle first. Put in 4.56 gears a Powertrax lockright locker did a rear disc brake swap and a roughstuff specialties diff cover.

No pictures but next I removed the engine transmission and started cleaning the frame and under body.
I guess I haven't mentioned it but I'm also converting it to a manual. Drivetrain will be a 95 tbi 454 big block NV4500 transmission and NP241 transfer case.
My plans for it are camping and some trails. The big challenge in my area is it's size. Some trails it just won't fit between the trees. I want to keep it as low as possible ideally 3 to 4 inches of lift with 36-38 inch tires and cut the body as needed.

PS: Sorry for the cellphone pics I don't own a camera.

Glad to see someone building one of these. I have a 1991 V1500 that I can’t decide what I want to do with it. Swaps are so cheaper for them now it’s crazy. It’s third in line behind getting my FJ60 back on the road and maintenance on my 100 series though.

Thanks man. Swaps are extremely easy in them and theirs tons of aftermarket support for them. That's what made me decide to build one.

Got the A Bomb center section put on and the front axle. Front springs are 52's from and 85 k10 with the overload removed and an Offroad design zero rate in its place. Shackles are 6 inches long and the front axle is moved forward 1 inch.
