A kayak trip with a scenic detour!

We decided to take our daughter on her 1st kayak trip to see how she would do on the water. Saturday morning we headed down to Patagonia Lake in Southern Arizona and met up with some friends. As soon as we got there it started raining. Luckily the rain let up after a few minutes and allowed us about 2 good hours of paddling time. Our daughter did well but I think that was her limit as she began to get restless. I didn't want to risk getting the camera wet so I didn't get any pics of the kayaking part.

It started raining again around 11am and we were forced to pack up and head for home so we decided to take a couple of detours. We crossed the Sonoita-Patagonia creek and followed the road along the preserve back to Patagonia.

We then decided to cut through Box Canyon heading west toward Madera Caynon and Green Valley. There is this big dry waterfall that I have tried to catch running numerous times and this was our lucky day.

We found a few forest service roads to link us back up to Sahuarita.

We came across this fenced in field of cemented PVC pipes so I stopped to check them out. Each slab/pipe had a stake with a number and inside each one was a small piece of 2x4 then dirt underneath that. I have no idea was this was for but there must have been hundreds of them.

So our short kayaking day turned out to be a fun little adventure anyway. It rained most everywhere we went and there is nothing better than a good rain in the desert.

Hope you enjoy:victory:

What a break in the weather, and a beautiful day to get out.

I would venture a guess that someone is doing a termite survey or pesticide research in those last pics.

What kind of kayaks were you using? How is it driving with them stacked in that configuration? Thanks

Thank you.

Once again, thanks for the nice shots especially the one of the tarantula with your truck in the background! Can't beat a monsoon rain in the summer for you guys. It's neat you're exposing the daughter to outdoor activities at such a young age.

That is my friend truck. He bought those kayaks at Costco recently and I am not sure on the brand. He did mention that they ride very well and he hasn't had any problems transporting them that way.

Thanks, it was one of those days that wound up being perfect in every way. Unfortunately my daughter was asleep when we saw the tarantula, it would have been her 1st.

That sounds like a logical explanation. I only looked in a few and didn't notice any termite damage to the wood but maybe they were pesticides that worked.:ylsmoke:
