Great pictures. Wikipedia says that Wyoming is the tenth largest state and the least populous. If I ever emigrated to the states, that's where I'd go. Scenery reminds me of the Cariboo region of BC where I grew up.

We left Rock Springs at around 8:35am and I pulled up at my house at 9:38pm. That's with photo stops, bs sessions, fuel stops, and a stop to eat.

I took another little drive today, Thursday, to another area of WY. I left Rock Springs at 9:30am heading south on hwy 430 until I got to the cutoff road that heads to Powder Wash and then comes out a few miles south of Baggs, WY just over the CO border. I then took hwy 70 out of Baggs east to Encampment and hwy 230 up to hwy 130 into Saratoga to fuel up. I back tracked a few miles and took hwy 130 east to Centennial.

I crossed the Divide at 9,955ft and hit a top elevation of 10,847ft.

There were several lakes, snow, mountain views, wild flowers, and a lot of history in the area. Some of the towns along this route from Baggs to the east are in the Little Snake River Valley. The towns had histories of mining in copper, gold, and low grade uranium. There were sawmills, planing mills, and lumberyards some of which were started for the railroad. The Plains Indians and the Mountain Men roamed the area and Baggs was said to be a favorite area of Butch, Sundance and the Wild Bunch. Oil and Gas along with Ranching and Farming have played and still play a part along with Recreational Activities now.

Another beautiful area in this great and varied state.

The photos start with some pictures of a slide that kept the road closed between Baggs and Encampment until just a few weeks ago. Then the next ones are from the area on the way to Centennial and then back to Baggs.

In 1955 a plane crashed into Medicine Bow Peak killing 66 passengers and crew. At the time it was the worst crash in U.S. Commercial Aviation history.

I had to piece this sign together with several shots as I couldn't fit it into one shot.
