It was "New...!"

The truck had 300 miles on it, I traded the stock tires for the Coopers; Other than the shell and tires it was bone stock. In hindsight, I probably should not have attempted Steele Pass alone, mid-week with no one around. The only tricky part was not having a "spotter..."

Sleeping

I usually sleep in the shell, but if on a longer journey, the shell gets loaded up with crap, so I take a small tent. I'm thinking of getting a "lumber rack" that fits over the shell, maybe then get a RTT. My wife isn't a camper, so it's usually me and the dog...

A used Thule or Yakima for your gear will be a lot cheaper than a RTT and lumber rack, I picked up a Sears Escargo from a Good Will for $9 on one trip.
