So...what do you think? Has the roof tent been worth it over the ground tent? The Jeep looks great, by the way. I like those sliders.

It's glorious when I'm using it. It's so nice to have a level, even sleeping surface with decent padding. But when I'm not using it, it's a sail and a slight burden. Luckily, I preserve my in-town miles as I have a 4 mile commute to work, so I've delayed the need to remove it in between trips. I'm not able to park in the garage anymore because of the height, which reminds me that I need to clean out the garage so I can find the motivation to remove the tent...

I've put about 12 nights in the tent in about 2 1/2 months, which I think is a fair ratio. I'm working on a way of storing it elevated for respect of the product as well as easy transport on and off the Jeep. I'm simply not satisfied leaning it up against the wall or just laying it on the ground. In the words of Ferris Beuller, "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."

I haven't read your whole thread, but have you thougt about making some sort of fairing in the front of the RTT to help direct the airflow over it?

you could rig up a lift like the jeep guys have to hold there hard tops up in the ceiling.

or make on e out of 1" thin wall box tubing, and some j hooks.

So, on my way home tonight, I went over a speed bump and heard a rattle, like loose chains dangling together. About a mile later, I hit a bump in the road and heard (and felt) a loud Crash Bang!. I freaked out a little, and looked in my rear view mirror to find something missing... My spare tire fell off my bumper! I usually have it padlocked on, but a couple weeks ago I removed it while detailing the Jeep. Apparently I did a less than stellar job putting it back on because the twist on thingy that holds the spare on worked it's way off (the initial rattle, the sound of the steel hitting the pavement). All it took was some acceleration and a bump and there you have it. I thank my lucky stars nobody was behind me, considering it happened on a pretty busy street in Tempe. A 60 lb. tire/wheel would not look good buried in the hood of a Lexus. I recovered all the parts, and reinstated the padlock.

Lesson learned. Complete user error, I'm not at all angry with the bumper. Still, totally lame, and embarrassing...

Nice lesson. My spare is locked to the swingout to prevent theft and this situation. Can never be too safe.

Pretty lame.

Check your stuff as I do not want to be following you only to swerve into someone else to avoid your spare tire and twist on thingy.
