Afrispoor Off Road Trailers

I will start you out by saying that I do not own one of these styles of trailers. I am currently building one of my own. So I can tell you that I have spent almost no time crawling around one, but I have done a bit of research trying to determin how I want mine to work for me.

It is a cruios name, the Afrispoor....

Sounds like Afris Poor... I dono, it implies, to my mind, that it is for the poor people. (which is fine, great, a nice low budget trailer, just what this country needs.) Then you say it will cost more than other trailers? I do not know, there is just a lot in a name in this country (as I am sure you know.)

Not sure what you can do with that, but yeah... Kind of like the Chevy Nova in south american, it hardly sold, because No Va means No Go in spanish.

The trailer itself sure seems a little curiously proportioned. I agree that the cooler seems a little curious. How hard would it be to take it out if you decided to go with a different one, for cleaning, or it broke etc etc.

I have also noticed that a lot of people like the lid to open up. IE the portion the tent is mounted to, it seems that a lot of them have a tilt lid, soone could access the interior space easier.

Drawers. I like the file cabinet draws in there, they pull out all the way, and that makes it easy to use, but the plastic ones on the other side are crurious, and personally I would just get rid of them altogethere so that I could store things in there, like sleeping bags, dishes, food etc.

Overall I think it is a nice looking trailer. How hard is it to ship?? If I wanted to run right out and pick it up for instance. Also it seems like you are in the same basic price range, mid to high in comparision to your competition.

It could work... I think you will do well enough. As said already, just get out there and let everyone see what you have. Highlight how it is "better" and the AT and such. If yours is bigger then you may want some side by side shots, or if yours is smaller and you want to play that up, same thing...

As for your first post, I have had people assume that I was selling things when I wanted opinions. People get their tempers all too tight online, not much you can do about it. :)
Good luck
Brian

The name could be a problem. We have been debating that for the US market.
'Spoor' in Afrikaans, means trail, animal foot print or track. You would follow an animal's 'spoor' through the bush. Developed in South Africa, so we get the name Afrispoor.

we have a few thoughts about possibly changing it to something like AfriTrail.

Shipping is pretty easy. It is about 12 feet x 6 feet x 5 feet and we have secured some very good rates to pretty much anywhere in the US. Our assembly facility is in South Florida and trailers can be picked up.

ps. thanks for the tip on the signature

Since you are a representative of the company, you need to get in touch with the administrators of the site (info@expeditionportal.com) to inquire about becoming a sponsoring vendor if you want to market your products here.

It would not be fair to allow you to market here for free, when we have vendors who pay for that privilege.

Once you have made arrangements with the Admin folks, we'll unlock this thread.

Thank you.

Thank Brian,
I post a formal introduction of our company and products very soon. In the mean time please check out our website and let me know if you have any questions...

Already had lots of comments about the name. "Spoor" in Afrikaans means animal track. We are considering changing it for the US. Any ideas ?

Good thing about the name change, I think. It's just one of those things where the original name just wasn't going to work here.

Interesting about the word "spoor". I always understood it in this context, quoted from Wikipedia "Terms such as dung, scat, spoor and droppings are normally used to refer to animal feces."
I see that "spoor" can actually be used to describe anything used to track an animal. Despite that, it might not be ideal for marketing your trailers in the US.

It currently is standard with a ball mount but we are testing with the new Lock 'n Roll hitch to allow full 360 rotation. See www.locknroll.com

Please move these discussions to the new other Afrispoor thread here, thanks.

Well, You asked for opinions and thoughts and as a current owner of a Conqueror Conquest I have some comparable insite.

Personaly, I think the the company missed some very critical storage space by not utilizing the area over the wheel wells. Not a real fan of the storage drawer concept. I have some on my Conqueror Conquest and while they serve a purpose. I still have the additional "Open storage" area on the otherside.

Price point: I think that the cost is the next real factor here. This is an expencive trailer. SS albeit. for that kind of $$,0000. it will need to have the storage space the us market demands. IMO.

Really not trying to be cynical here: but I have to say that I'm not so sure the picture of the guy standing on a step ladder deploying the tent is helpful.

Is the tent not self erecting, or is there a reason one would need to have to pack a step ladder to camp in order to easily deploy the tent.

Hi Wmac, Thanks for the input, we really appreciate all opinions and comments.

The Conquest is a very nice trailer. We do have a larger unit called the Buffalo, that compares to the Conquest with the additional storage space you refer to. Currently we are only actively marketing the Leopard but the Buffalo is available on special request. That said, all the drawers are optional and they can be left out.

Regarding the ladder. That is not required to setup the tent, it is a popup style tent. The pictures are not very good and we are redoing them at the moment. The ladder is included and clips into the bed setup, to make it easy to get up to the bed.

Regarding the price. We are definitely not the cheapest trailer out there but we are in line with all similar trailers in the US and being that it is made from Stainless Steel and some of the other standard options, it does have a lot of added value. I believe the Conqueror was available in the US it ran at roughly the same price. However, I think they are very different trailers. The Conquest would compare better to the Afrispoor Buffalo, which should run about $2000 more than the Leopard.

If you are at the Overland Expo next month, come by and see us.

Thanks again

Since the name is animal track, why not go with African tracker, or afri-tracker. Perhaps you could go with single track, or double track with or without African before it.

I dono, just spit-balling.

I wish you much success with your trailer. The more people making them the better. (Because more people will see them and want one, the more people who buy them the more the price point comes down and it ends up with the cycle making them plentiful for all!)
