A *rare* Montero in these parts showed up at the local LKQ, and it had a set of nice speakers in it (2 Kicker under the dash, 2 Alpine in the doors, dunno the tweeter brand but they're beefy). Just the fronts, though. Rears were factory.
I've already swapped the tweeters since it was an easy job, and they now overpower the rest of the speakers haha, they sound awesome.
Has me excited to finish the install now, but I hate doing anything with wiring. Give me stuff that bolts in, no wires or electricity ?
**So my questions are:
1- How nice is the factory amp? I had a Sony single DIN head unit installed back in 2013 that alone made everything sound amazing, including the bass, so my guess is the amp is performing well? I could be 100% wrong on that. I do not plan on replacing this head unit, unless I have to.
2- There were Alpine 2-way crossovers in each door on the salvage Monty. I took both, but does this mean that person bypassed their amp? The crossovers went to the door speakers and the tweeters. I currently do not have them installed so the new tweeters I have running off the factory system, and they sound pretty good to me. No distortion or crackling.
3- Where is the factory amp? **This forum will not allow "amp" as a search term (it considered it an incomplete word and showed no results) so I couldn't find any pictures from previous posts. When I tried "amplifier," that wasn't much help either since it's not usually spelled out like that. I do have a JBL amp I could maybe use, but I haven't looked to see where it would even go. Its meant for under the seat, though.
4- What size can I fit in the back? I saw where someone here did 6x9s but I couldn't tell if any mods were needed or if it was a direct fit.
Speakers are not my forte at all. I'm not wanting to rattle the neighborhood but do as simple of a straight swap as possible without messing anything up.
Thank you in advance, all!
