Sorry to hear about your hernia operation, I have been there myself. I have enjoyed this thread on Alaskan Campers and all the inovative ideas you have incorporated in your campers. I am ready to order a new one and will be useing ideas from your research and experience.

I've been doing a little recent work on the camper with the addition of a cell phone booster/antenna and a wifi antenna and repeater:

Still anxious to see your sweet new set up Carlyle. Send me a note next time you pass through Pueblo West and have time to swing by.

After driving with the spare tire on the front for several months now it has been an okay solution to spare location, but not ideal. I've been advised by my local mechanical guru as well as the dealership that it may be causing a heat issue. I spoke to the Dave, the owner of Aluminess about my concerns and he agreed with me that the front mounted spare may not be the best placement. As of now the spare is pulled off the font along with the swing arm assembly and the temperatures are down about 25 degrees on the coolant system as well as a slight increase in mileage. In addition it is a little easier to see out the front. Aluminess is designing and building a rear swing arm gate for the rear of the camper, hopefully it will be here soon so that I have a spare again. The biggest disadvantage I can see with the rear carrier is that it will have to be opened and closed every time we get in and out of the camper, oh well. Perhaps I can use it for something when we are camped other than an obstacle to walk around.

Here is the tire on the front:

Carl, as a fellow Cummins owner I am very impressed with what you have accomplished with your rig. Are you still running the factory emissions equipment (EGR, DPF, Urea)?

Thanks Still have all the factory emissions crap on it as it's still under warranty. Can the DEF etc be completely pulled w/o screwing up the factory computer?

I know that H&S makes a tuner for the cab & chassis models that allows you to run without the DPF and the EGR systems. I am not sure what it does with the DEF part of the emissions. I am deleted on my Cummins with their XRT Pro tuner (set on stock power) and the truck is like a whole different animal. It pulls HARD right off idle like a diesel should and I picked up 3-4mpg depending on how I drive it. I was averaging 14.5 city/16 hwy and now I am at 17 city/19.5 hwy. I strongly recommend it for the longevity of your truck as well. The emissions systems on these things are killing them in the long run. You can pick up an XRT Pro and a DPF delete pipe for about $700. I figure over the life of the truck I will save over $16k in fuel alone. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Carl- I just want to say thank you for sharing so much of your time and info in this (SUPER) "thread"- what a great build! I know adding pics all the time is not always easy but it adds so much to the story for all the readers. Thank you very much! VERY cool build and you have brought some really great ideas and thoughts to light that I would not have thought of. Thanks so much!
