Alaskan Camper Build Up

Thank you Carl for posting pics of your rear tire carrier.:drool: This has given me inspiration on how to fabricate a similar set-up for my truck. My problem, is that the rear of my canopy is sloping. So I have to have the tire sitting at a reverse angle, and not straight upright like your truck. Also, I have the added issue of making my hinge point far off to the side to facilitate the lowering of my ramp. Cheers, Chilli.

Was there a reason that you could not offset the tire so that you could still open the door without having to move the tire?

The tire is simply too large to offset to the side and be able to open the door. Therefore it's centered and away we go.

After perusing many of the builds I came across this table leg on the Tardis build and knew I needed it. The table in the Alaskan is okay, but by no means perfect. I'll try to post a video of how it works later, but for now here are some pictures of the table slightly modified. One of the portions had to be shortened to fit and the tabletop itself was replaced as the hollow core oem table would not stand up to through and through stainless hardware. Incidentally the table leg is a Lagun and made in Sweden, great design and solid hardware.

The biggest disadvantage I can see with the rear carrier is that it will have to be opened and closed every time we get in and out of the camper, oh well. Perhaps I can use it for something when we are camped other than an obstacle to walk around.

Great build! Truck looks beastly for sure. Excellent.

When you are camping, you can swing it around and latch it to the side of the truck = out of the way for night time walks and such. Then, when underway, you can swing it back behind the truck and off you go.

When you are camping, you can swing it around and latch it to the side of the truck = out of the way for night time walks and such. Then, when underway, you can swing it back behind the truck and off you go.

Thanks for the kudos and definitely something to consider in the future. Some sort of double hinge arrangement might work...

Tire rack now has can be held in the open position using a bolt. Please ignore the touch of surface rust, needs to go to the power coaters next month.

Receiver hitch has extension now that allows the tire to rest on a little ramp while in the closed position.

Door latches in place, came from Fastenal, this was a tip from Saronconcepts on the Bullet XV build, not the Tardis build. Though the Tardis build has given me several great ideas.

BTW, I have a set of hinges and two hinge lock sets for the Engel 45 coolers if anyone is interested.

Hey Chilli, cooler was about two thirds full in that picture. It's amazing how many cans you can get in a 45 quart cooler and luckily the selection of canned beer is much better than it used to be.
