Box in progress of being built that will fill the gap between the mattress and inside wall of camper. Should be handy for sheets, towels, etc.

Radiolabs WiFi repeater installed. Picks up Wifi from up to 3/4 mile away and rebroadcasts as a hotspot. Works pretty slick with the external antenna:

I'm starting to organize the front under bed storage area. Extra fridge and freezer will slide back and forth on a track with rollers for inside or outside access. I ordered another hinge kit from Wagon Gear so that the fridge hinges on the side rather than the end.

Fridges in storage area for measurements, transit bags just arrived and will go on for measuring purposes.

I purchased several of these switches to match the interior switches already in the camper and will use them for the cell phone booster, stereo ignition switch, WiFi repeater etc.

Let me know how you like that Wilson cell phone signal booster. I have been considering one of those for my house and one for my truck. Also that Wi-Fi booster is cool, I had no idea that those even existed.

I'll let you know on the cell phone booster, so far so good after finding the "sweet spot" for the internal antenna. Up at least two bars all around if there is a signal to find.

Carlyle,

Additional thoughts are: raise the dinette floor and store the spare horizontally in that space or store similarly but in the dog house. Either location requires a large side access hatch, which may or may not be a structural obstacle. Then there is the issue of manhandling that spare into and out of said storage. Perhaps a carrying rack that slides out then drops down is possible.

Of course in reality, most large spares are carried on the rear of the vehicle.

As I'm sure you know, searching this site for a rear bumper mount brings forth an impressive number of posts on this problem. (Demonstrating what a great resource this site is, thanks to all it's contributors.) Clearly more clever people than me have been working on this and frankly I'm reappraising my own bias against swing outs.

Here's one example.
See also posts 8 and 9 of that thread for other products.
Drool version here.

Lots to percolate …

This is a response I pulled from page 34, as I rehash a problem I still have. Link one doesn't work now...

Okay the front tire is not working and I need to find an alternative. Engine temps are too high and my milage has suffered. As an easy experiment I pulled the spare and bracket everything is happier. A simple swing gate on the rear is nice, but has anyone seen any designs that pivot the tire down from the horizontal axis with assist? If I could incorporate the stairs into a fold down design using mechanical assist it would be great, I mean really great. I thought I saw one on a a Fuso a few years ago on this forum, but just can't seem to find it now. Any help would be appreciated and thanks.

Hey Carl, how are ya?!
Sorry the tire hasn't worked out. And also that I'm unable to find ,at this time, that lost link. It was to a post from a guy on this board with a mint, bright red H1, from either Texas or Whistler (?) who had posted to a rear tire carrier thread. Anyhow he did a brilliant job fabricating something similar to the Ibis shown on youtube.

As to an assist, for ideas I'd look into the springs used for an overhead door or ones for a loading dock leveler. I'm bet your thinking if the tire were down when you're parked it would be less obtrusive than a swing out. Or maybe you would like to incorporate a rear platform.

I'm sure you have thought about this, but just to satisfy my curiosity, would the spare fit horizontally under the deck, aft of the fuel tank? Assuming the tow hitch was reworked and you cared not a fig about angle of departure.

Hi David and thanks for looking. Looks like at this point I'll be spending next Tuesday at my original bed welder while he takes apart the front swing arm and converts it into a rear swing arm for me. I'll shoot some pics as it comes along. At this point I'm just going to keep it simple, but well balanced so it swings well with a pin to keep it open as well as closed.

Thanks Still have all the factory emissions crap on it as it's still under warranty. Can the DEF etc be completely pulled w/o screwing up the factory computer?[/QUOTE

I know of a 5500 that has the DEF tank assembly sitting on a shelf (along with the DPF and EGR) running code free :) You would be amazed at how much better the truck runs and the increase in fuel economy(and how much this junk weighs). It will also run nicely on any diesel now........ Of course, it's for off road, Mexico travel only :ylsmoke:

The website has some great stuff on there that I will utilize when the warranty is up on my truck. As of right now, all is staying on as the warranty is part of the cost of the truck that is already paid that I don't want to lose.

Here is a shot of the Engels that now slide back and forth to access inside or out. The Engels sit on trays with ball rollers that allow them to slide back and forth as needed:

After a partial day at the welder I now have a rear spare tire carrier:
