Well I went ahead and started to paint. The lids and taildgate can wait. They will be bolted on so I can paint the rest now. Went with silver.

filling the seams in with some bondo.

I used engine enamel for the paint, had good luck with the stuff. I use bed liner for the fenders.

Looks pretty good. The sun was out bright, made the pic hard to see.

I saw this while searching for a new trailer. I knew that I wanted some kind of side storage, saw this and figuered I would make my own version. It is a great idea to use up the wasted space on the sides. The general idea was someone elses though.

Really do not like the side boxes as now my trailer looks bare without them:drool::drool:, maybe time for a modification to my trailer.

Love the reset lights as well.

got some sheet metal shaped for me for the tops. Getting closer!!!!!!

I was going to mount the hinges on the top but, it made since on the bottom because now I have a platform when open.
Photo134.jpg

The drip rail kept the top from openning fully with the hinges on top. Keeping the stuff inside dry was more important to me.

I finished the sides off, now just need to mount the locks and paint.

Man, I was sitting back and checking out how everything is coming out and how it's starting to look. I was thinking, "wow I have done alot of work on this thing". Then I noticed it. The worst thing when building a master peice. A MISTAKE!!!!!!!! The one thing that only you will notice as the public will not. All your hard work down the drain, the one thing that will make you wonder to start over. After crying and screaming at the world, because it's not my fault. Huh! it is a small one, something simple to fix, no big deal.

Well, here's my OOPs. One inch difference, that's it. (what a bone head, lOLOLOL)

hahaha.......thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Looking at the other builds here, could start over with something different. Alot of great stuff here. But for now I have to finish what I started with. Gotta at least use it first.:)

updates:

Finished up the tops for the side storage, painted and drilled holes for the locks.
I also picked up more material for the tailgate. I will be working on that soon.

Looks very professional! Guess I don't get to haul it off.

I have a question, with the composite wood decking, I like the look but concened that the floor would be harder to clean....so, since the stuff is solid, could the boards be ripped cutting off the radius edge and then glue the boards together for a flat surface?

Just a thought.....for the application of an interior build, yours pulling double duty it's not an issue. :coffeedrink:

You know good question. I haven't glue this stuff yet but, It is real easy to work with. Cutting and routing this stuff is great and because it is harder than normal wood it is easier to clean. I have been throwing the idea of staining it. I have used other wood like plywood and boards, after time they dry out and become easier to chip and break. I like this stuff so far. I was cutting and grinding on it and haven't had metal shavings inbed in the material.
If I was going to make a flat surface, I would rip it then route a channel to fit and glue the peices together. Something I would have to try?? It is hard stuff, staining with a finish, something to think about.. Try it out......
