A little update:

I've found 1 freshly rebuilt 22re in Whistler for $1200. Haven't check it out yet, but it has plastic chain guide.

Yesterday I went check out the $1400 one in Langley. This guy in his early 60s surely does this for a living. He sells about 2 of these every month apparently. All stock (plastic guide as well), except the 0.x10" crank machining he mentioned about? (I had no idea what that meant though)

Looks like if he sells the one below before I might buy mine in July, I could get him to put in the metal chain guide this time.

Fast forward a couple months, I'm back in Smithers this week to work on my truck! I've been having an amazing summer working May & June in Princeton, BC & July & August in Dawson, YT.

May & June:

All in all, amazing summer working & exploring new scenery in the Yukon.

Engine work has begun!

I just started prepping the blown engine overhaul process today. I got it tow to a shop in town & we'll be R&R-ing all day tomorrow!

All fixed!

Just need to break-in 500km now + hot valve adjustment. It idles dead-on upon initial startup.

Question:

-Is the valve cover gasket re-useable? Silicon needed?
-What's the valve clearance setting at hot?

Good news on the truck front! Ready to fight another day.
Can't really help with your questions. Some rubber valve cover gaskets were reusable.
Sounds/looks like you have had a great summer. I hear the locals in Smithers are a little testy about the lack of sunshine as fall rush's up on them!
So which direction will you head this winter?
Have a good one.

Finally took apart my old engine. That was fun!!!

Have a look, I can't really see obvious cause for cylinder #4 failure.

Camper is holding great after all these years of use & 1 roll over!

This coming week I hope to:

-Paint the camper interior
-Spray foaming inside of the frame's AL tubing to cut down on condensation in minus temp.

I also got around:

-Upgrading the 30psi gas shocks to 60psi assisting the roof pop-top maneuover.
-Replaced the burned out incandescent rear signal lights to LEDS (But now I have to figure out a permanent way to slow down the flasher speed)

Since I left Smithers, I put on about 2000km on the 2nd batch of oil (5w30). Valves are adjusted hot (well hot initially ...) at intake 0.08 & exhaust at 0.12.

When I hit about 3000km I'll put in the 3rd oil change, using stock toyota filter. This one will go for 5000km, throughout the winter. Should I go 5w30 or 10w30?

Oh I forgot, I just spend under $100 to give the truck a new look to go along with the new engine!

(Not to sure about the front grill yet...)

So fall is here in Princeton & burning work has begun last week! Snow has come & gone, but we need more snow to keep burning though!

But I finally got to "address" my camper roof condensation problem. Sprayed foam all the aluminium tubings & retaped my the roof insulation, & repainted the inside. Hopefully this will be enough!
