Aluminum flatbed for a Fuso (NA)

I'm starting to spec out an Alu flatbed for my crew cab as the base for my lightweight camper build. I'm planning on an 80" (cab width) bed. Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom?

Thinking something along these lines...

My welding skills are pretty minimal, but I've never had much of a problem finding someone who can weld when I needed it.

A good friend of mine owns a metal fab business and has built flat beds on cabover trucks in the past. PM me if you are interested. He is in Northeast GA right on the SC line.

Thanks I'm going to try and get it done closer to home but will let you know!

Pugsslyyy - I added a bit more info about my bed on my build thread. Also, my bed is 84" wide at the rub rails. It fits nicely under the camper since the bed itself is narrower by 3" or so each side at the end because the rails taper to the bed. Hope that makes sense. I can take a photo if that helps. I would like to say I planned that but I really just got lucky on that one. It would have been nice to have the camper before I bought the bed.

Thanks - I'll check it out!

You should seriously consider making that a dump bed. It makes for excellent engine access and really adds very little weight. The bed is only attached at three points- the pivots on the tail and the hoist in the center. In my case the subframe slides down along side the upper frame to locate the front of the bed side to side. You could add some sort of spring hold down at that point but the hoist powers down as well and the hydraulics hold it in the down position. I can't imagine that the whole dump system adds 200 pounds to the chassis.

How much would a tray like that cost to build .

I have a tipper. I think you are a bit optimistic on the weight. A 3 stage ram could weigh 200 pounds plus you
