I carry a fire axe and hatchet in my series and a Max tool and chainsaw in the LR3.

my 2-bits. I camp for the enjoyment of the experience. This means sometimes I use tools or techniques that I find more enjoyable than their more "efficient" alternatives. Like cooking on a cast iron skillet over an open fire instead of boiling water in a backpacking stove to prepare freeze dried food.
Chopping wood with an axe is one of the most singularly satisfying experiences I have in the woods. I will never give it up. The first thing I do after making camp is tromp off into the brush to find firewood.
That said, I also definitely have a saw as well for once the novelty of the axe wears off and I just need to finish collecting enough ************** wood to build the dang fire.

Axes in 2021 are an interesting topic. Sooo many derps out there these days, and axes are a tool you really dont want to get bitten by.
I've been using the same Gransfors Bruks SFA (summer) or Council Tool boys axe (winter) and Bob Dustrude folding bucksaw for 15 years... They just work. Cut firewood, pound stakes, clear trail of downed tree, cut Christmas tree, help Mother-in-law clean up her yard, etc.

We were up at Tellico back in 2006 and took a ride up a dead end trail to the top of the mountain - on our way back down we found this blocking our path...
I got on the radio and asked if anyone had a chain saw - Denny said I've got one but its in my tent (back in camp about six miles away). So we had to break out the axes.
After about an hour of chopping we rigged a snatch block to the far tree and winched the deadfall out of the way.

I kinda have a thing for quality axes........I enjoy using them and have several Gransfor and Hulks. I just picked up the GB camp axe for an upcoming moto camping trip and looking forward to seeing how it performs. The small Hulks I've used for years, in combo with a Gerber compact saw, and found it did a great job of chopping/splitting firewood, pounding tent stakes and was compact and easily carried on my bike.
