What gears would be best for the standard 350 and 700r4 pushing 36" tires? I blew out the rear dif, and am thinking of switching out the rear for a 14 bolt, and going ahead and switching the front axle to Dana 60.

I have 4.56's with 34-inch tires, so I think you would want to go 4.88 minimum. Here is a chart (this is 1:1 at 65mph - remember, we have an overdrive).

Thanks Scrib.

Another question - If I am going to swap out the axles, I may as well get rid of the blocks that are lifting it now and get a proper lift kit for it. What should I be looking for if I am going to have 1 ton axles under it? WIll the lift kits for 3/4 ton work?

You can do a 52" spring swap on the front with a zero rate block and a shackle flip on the rear. Eliminates blocks rides better flexes better. While your at it with the 60 check out the springless plates and bronze king pin bushings also crossover steering. I am currently in a swap with dually axles(60 front 70hd rear) so I can run H1 rims and tires.

roof rack

Yes if you can , did you drop your head liner to put it on or just bolt thru. I am going to add a try to the back of mine.

I got my lift from rough country full springs all around and they let you pick the longer ones if you like

Hey Sean, this chart may be a bit more accurate for the fullsize chevys. I did this up with some stock info using common tire sizes. If you are looking for some good online calculators try 4lo.com

David - the guy that built my ladder may be able to, I will ask him.
PMA - Thank you for the chart. I have no idea where the pop out windows came from, they were on the truck when I bough it. I can look closer next time I am at the lake.

I did break the stock 1/2 ton rear axle - so it now has a 14 bolt FF rear, and I went ahead and got a D60 front, and new brakes all around. I also got crossover steering, bilstien shocks, and steering box reinforcement from ORD. I have 35" tires for now since I had to get 8 lug wheels. I may get 37" tires and have to have some fender cutting.
I'll take some new pics when I get a chance.

If you can find a label or name or a part number or anything. Would you at least be willing to post up some good close up shots of the windows and their hinges inside and out for some details?

So as expected based on earlier helpful posts, the 4.56 gears that came in the axles are not going to work for me, even with the 35's. At 70mph trying to go up hills, it is just confused and ends up in 4th or even 3rd :Wow1:. I took it to a scale today and it weighed in at, a presumably hefty, 6,820lbs with me and the kids (about 280lbs total worth of people).

It is a stock 350 (5.7L) and 700R4 with 130k miles (+20% for unknown mileage while running 36's and stock gears)

I have ordered 5.13 gears, and went ahead and got an ARB locker for the rear, as I am already in this deep. I guess I will see how that does before determining if it just needs more tq/hp. At this point I am unsure if I will just stick with 35's, or go bigger and cut the fenders.

New picture

I have not found out anything about the ladder yet, but will soon since he is going to do the new gears etc.
The windows really do not have any indication.

The number is 01-22-9113?

Thanks for the detailed pics on the rear glass. Its better then nothing.

As for your gear issue I dont understand what the problem is, unless your tranny is coppin' an attitude. Math comes out to 35 with 4.56 comes in OD comes out to 100rpms above stock (being 235/75s with 3.54s). Thats the sweet spot.

I dont know if it matters but my lockup went all weird on me and before having it replace i had issues on gear searching on any incline. New lockup. issue gone. I just need gears now.
