Another Hummer Trailer Build

started fooling around....

The first pic is based off the supplied dimension pic, which did help to get things into perspective, but the others helped a lot also. It should be in the ballpark, as should the frame(although height was an estimate). There's a partial frame detail...the first 4 feet or so, then in the second pic, it shows the new frame section mounted "under" the existing trailer frame. If I'm correct I believe that transfers into cutting the existing hitch frame off, flush with the front of the trailer.

The frame I drew was based on 2' x 4" x 1/4" aluminum..all calculations should be checked by an engineer...this is just to assist you with a concept. If I read right, the trailer frames are aluminum? If they're steel it's a slam dunk...if they're not I believe there would be a need for more fiche plates, and some serious mechanical/welded joints

hope it helps....Pat

Great help. I see the new "front" will slide underneath the original trailer frame.

The entire frame is aluminum. That got me thinking of where I can find the same material. :Wow1: I have another M1102! I can cut it in half and use the front end and hitch to bolt it underneath the original trailer. Very little fab and the same material.

What do you think?

The potential doner is the green chasis trailer with wood on it in the upper left.

That would be a huge savings...good thinking!

The only issue I see is that the beam(s) location would not align when you slide it under, however, the main frame beams (running front to back) would be perfect.

I'll try and get a box drawn on it tonight.

First Shake Down Ride

Thank you, I look forward to see what come up with.

I am still working on the inside but I took her out for a shake down run. Pulls very smoothly.

I expected some lurch through the pintle hitch - smooth and quiet.

Very spacious and cool inside and it was 105 outside.

The area that could use more real estate is the front. I mounted the Hi-Lift but I would like room for more fuel and water.

While I was looking for components I found two brand new trailers. Just what I need, two more trailers, but I couldn't pass it up.

Built in 3/2010. No wear. The tops were still in the boxes. The instructions sheets were taped to the body. The tires have the nubs on the tread. No visible wear or damage I could find. Picked up from the Big Red One SOF based out of Ft. Riley, KS. I love the Army.

These have LED lights and run 24v or 12v. My other M1102 trailers are by Silver Eagle in OR. These are by Schutt in WI. Very nice craftsmanship.

I picked them up on the way to Air Venture in Oshkosh.

Update on Trailers

Before:
DSC_0008.jpg

Well, after a few trips I wanted to update the soft top. My goals were:

insulation for winter camping
maximum ventilation with screens for summer camping
windows!
built in kitchen box
built in tool box
security
big enough to sleep for two or haul an ATV

After. Almost done.

I am interested in doing a few more. PM me if you need aluminum cap for your M1101/1102.
