Interesting. It's the same in Nicaragua. It's expensive to call between the two companies, and the companies often have promotions of discounted rates to call phones they service as they jockey to become dominant in the market (Enitel seems to be winning). Since cell phones are all pay as-you-go and free to receive calls most people pick up a second for around $20 w/SIM.

The main road in Suriname needs maintenance badly. Some parts get a real nice new coat of paint but most parts they keep patching it up like this.

I'm reading all about a green FJ40's roadtrip in the US, and what shows up at our doorstep? A very nice Japanese edition BJ40.

Have you ever seen the wheel wells like this? Martin tells me this is a standard Japan version like this. I have never seen it before.

Okay guys, finished with the Suriname images, now it's time to move on to the next "unknown" Amazon country: Guyana. You all might know Eddy Grant, well he is from Guayana, as a lot of other New Yorkers, so I am told...

Having breakfast on the Guyana-Suriname border, just before the gates will open for the ferry.

We got off the ferry across the Corantyn River, drove a couple of minutes and saw this sign. Isn't that a great way to welcome visitors to your country?

The famous "Tapir", the homemade Guyanese boxshaped mini bus, which carries up to 7 people.

Guyana is a super nice country!

First puncture in I don't know how many years, is repaired free of charge by the friendly Guyanese "K"!

The wedding girls. Somewhere downtown Georgetown, we spotted a group of high-heeled purple-dressed girls ready for a wedding. Would they pose with the Cruiser we asked!

Shane is helping me out with the bushings. Great chap, excellent service at no cost! Thank you Shane.

We see a lot of Bush Trucks for sale Bedford model "M" AWD.

64? Now that is a strange speedlimit isn't it? what is the fastest you ever driven?

More on Guyana:

Spend 4 hours covered in coolant under the car. We had a very small leak in the exit hose that I tried to solve for months. Now with the help of some pro's we succeeded.

Jungle roads are filled with these big Bedford trucks, when I ask how old they are, nobody actually knows...

Currently we are in Belem, Brazil and experienced some bad cracks in the aluminum roof extension. So luckily for us the local 4x4 club came to the rescue and offered us a place to stay and excellent tools.

How much stuff can you keep in a Land Cruiser?

Coen in action in yet again an empty Land Cruiser.

Getting the roof off requires awesome power and some tools.

You can see clearly through to the other side.

Super tools have been lend to us.

Really speechless to see this kind of wear so short after a complete body work job in Bolivia!

Using brains not power, makes us who we are.

Preparing the Tig welding equipment.

Getting the reinforment in place and opening the original piece to "pull" in the new aluminum.

Tig welding is an art and Carlos is a master!

Immense heat is produced with Tig welding. Protective gloves and leather jacket are a must.

This is the finished weld. Looks great!

In the meantime we are driving around town topless!
