Excellent, Coen. Great pics and stories.

Question...How did you like the little red toyota 4x4 van that came to your meeting? I've seen a few of those around. Seem pretty nimble and fun.

Very much appreciate what you guys do with smallish tires, careful driving and an adventurous spirit. Makes the trucks here in the U.S. with their 37" tires look rather silly going down a fireroad.

Cheers!

Heya BIGdaddy, which meeting are you referring to? And which little red Toyota? Are you referring to last weekend?
I do really like our standard size tires. They really seam to be doing a fine job.

Adventurous greetings,
Coen

The Ih8mud meeting in Cochabamba from the previous page here on the portal. There is a picture of a small, red, micro-van that has sand ladders and kayaks on the roof.

Seems like there is some renewed interest lately with these compact carryall's from HiAces(toyota) to L300's(mitsubishi, I think)

Aha, you mean that meeting. Ahum... that is a while back already and that was fun, the little red car as you call it showed up at the last minute via an introduction of someone else. I like that. People emailing me asking if it is okay to bring a friend who showed up a day before... Sure, the more the merrier...

We were preparing for a great sunday for an off-road fest with the only TLCA chapter bros in Brazil...... Then something in the engine exploded.....

5 minutes before heading out from the petrol station.

recent made friends are put to the test of friendship

the 10.000 km old coupling on the steering shaft is thorn badly.... How can this happen?

A cheap Bolivian glow plug has melted all away. I hope it has been blow to bits and pushed outside!

So the Land Cruiser had to stay at the petrol station locked it and enjoyed the rest of the day with the guys and girls... Had a great day. Look at my set on Flickr: Brazil 4x4 trails - a set on Flickr

Needless to say I am now shopping for new parts. The coupling they have here is like a strange looking Chinese copy from old tires. But the real challenge will be finding glow plugs.... Because they never ever heard of a 3B engine here. Almost all the local Land Cruisers, called Bandeirantes sport old Mercedes engines.... Hoping to get some glow plugs out of Paraguay.

Adventurous greetings,
Coen

No news on new glowplugs. No where to be found in Brazil.

Cezar, trying to screw in some other glowplugs from a HiLux to see if capping the holes would solve the problem. Note the rare 5 door Bandeirante in the back is his.

When he discovers something still sticking in the no. 4 hole. With long pincers we remove the bottom part of the exploded glowplug.

This is how the exploded glowplugs look like. On the left you see the part that got stuck in the no. 4 hole.

Hi Coen,
I've been following your adventure, i also have a BJ40, just like yours, but in short chassis.

Just sharing, i also had a blown out glow plug once and cant find any replacement (because it happened at night and out of town), so i just closed the glow plug hole with a usual bolt, and it holds for a while, maybe u can do that too.

Happy journey :)

No post in almost a month?

Hope all is well, and a Happy New Year to both of you.

Edit: Ack! Just checked your blog - SOO sorry to hear about the mugging :Wow1:. Thankfully it appears you both were not harmed. :(

Hi guy's.. sorry for the radio silence [how good of you to remind me, and how convenient those email notifications]. We spend x-mas and new years quietly at a deserted beach. Actually we are still there. Just found a nice guy whose usb modem I can use :) [nice people do exist, even if we had a minor mishap in a big city; read the blog] so here are some images from last weeks and yesterday. I wish all you guys the best you can imagine in 2011... Now lets see if I can watch some Dakar on net, haven't followed it at all... :-(

steep slopes of tricky soft sand..

We find ourselves in tropical waters

Strolling at night at the beach we encounter this rare 'Cabeçuda'. Most turtles are 'Olives'. We were very lucky to meet this lady last night.

So this is our little camping spot. We are right in the middle somewhere. This shot is taken from across the reef. You can just walk over during low tide. We are spending x-mas there, probably new years as well.. Just us, a lot of coconuts, beach, books and gorgeous translucent warm seawater...

High tide is bringing in old palmtrees.

What a wonderful treasure you have found there! The pictures are fantastic. I am sitting here in the northeastern US, waiting for another snow storm . . . :(

We are following the Dakar on television, although the coverage is pathetically limited. 30 minutes an evening, at most.

Happy travels.

Okay, on with reality:

cutting the sticky stuff. Mangos are not a pain, but the jackfruit is.

A very rare 4 door Bandeirante. I heard people say that Toyota Brazil produced a very limited edition of 4 door Bandeirante versions?

This is the work of Jesse, one of the best 'limusine' builders of Brejo da Madre de Deus.

165134_487372778542_55756113542_5970217_5597040_n.jpg

Then we spot a 6 door version. Those are really rare. We have been lucky to pose together.

I hope you all appreciate these?
