Any Instructors/Patrollers here?

I was just wondering if there are any instructors or patrollers around.

I was all through college and miss it now.

If you're not looking to get rich...easily the best job on earth!

Hard to pay to ski now though...

I started out as an instructor for both nordic and alpine but quickly switched to patroler for a steady paycheck. I patroled for 15 years at Mt. Baldy California. Stopped after having kids. It was a fun pay check while it lasted.

Nice to meet you fellas

East Coast instructing isn't so great and a super short season.
We would be open from Thanksgiving to April 1 (at best)
I would make all my money from mid december to MLK Day.

Those were the days when I would work 14 hours, drink for 2 then sleep in my car and repeat Friday through Sunday!

Patroller at Mammoth Mountain CA for awhile, now I'm a Paramedic/Firefighter up here. Your right, one of the most fun jobs there are- too bad its not yearround. Work hard all day, Happy Hour till ??? Do it all over again. 200+ days a year easy!!!!

Aaron,

My brother was a FF/medic in Mammoth/Mono County for several years before he left for a chief job in Washington, he's now a fire chief in Alaska. How long have you been up in Mammoth? I still get up there a bunch but not as much as I used to since my brother moved.

Taught skiing and snowboarding for 25 years, Europe, New Zealand, North America. Managed ski schools and ski programs for the last 15 years. Quit doing it full time 4 years ago when AT kicked into full gear.

Now I'm a volunteer instructor at Disabled Sports, Alpine Meadows, CA.

It's a great life, for time off to travel, good camaraderie, and the exhilaration of sliding......... so long as you enjoy being a poor as a church mouse.

And even at the management level, right Martyn...

Not patroller but I hang out with and ride bikes with a crew patrollers.. It is a good life and they all have fun, I figured I didn't want to do it because I didn't want to ever get burned out on skiing, so as much of it as possible is always enjoyable.. :) But tons of respect for patrollers always, particularly here in Utah where avalanches are so common. Last winter during a huge freak inbounds avalanche I heard play by play of an attempted revival while riding on the lift. It was awful..
