Applejack's 4Runner Build

My old build thread got too cluttered and can be deleted.
I wanted to start a new one that was a bit more concise.
Brought it home exactly one year ago.

Current Mod List:
-OME 881/890 with Sport Shocks
-Thule MOAB Basket
-Gray Wire Mod
-Hella 500 FF's
-Full Time Power Outlets
-ARB Bull Bar
-265/75-16 Duratracs
-Cobra 75 SXWXYZLMNOP??

This is how I bought the "Ghetto Runner"
l_carpic_D-472_S-1434_1.jpg

The first thing I did was trade it the street wheels and tread for some Nitto TG's, some Taco wheels and strip off the running boards

Later I got a set of beat up Mojave's and re-coated them

A friend really wanted my Mojave's and offered more than they were worth so I sold them, and traded my Taco wheels for 4runner 5 star wheels

And a shot of it after the OME 881/890 lift

I'll update this thread as time permits.......

Thank you for saving that poor 4Runner from a life of bling.

The Christmas Season is a great time to bring this embarassing fact to the light of day. Unfortunately, Toyota 4 Runners -- all over North America, and some right in our own backyard -- are subjected to being "pimped." For just pennies a day you could adopt one of these poor 4Runners and save them from a life of indiscriminate blingey decorations. Go out there and look for that neglected and abused Toyota... dig down deep and save it from a life of shame.

Thank you for your generosity Applejack.

Indeed. I could tell as soon as I crawled underneath it that it was a serious case of neglect. There were no scratches or dents on the skid plates, no mud hiding anywhere on the undercarriage...........horrible.
But she's doing much better now.

I gave her an early Christmas/1 yr anniversary present last week end.........

I think it really brings out her eyes and completely hides the fat bottom lip she used to have.

But what a freaking pain it was to get that thing on! The bumper did not want to slide into place very well. I had to use my hi-lift to try and spread the brackets apart enough to line everything up.

Automotive ADHD is fun!
Funny - You've had five sets of wheels on one truck. I've had two sets of wheels on five trucks.

Haha....nice work on the truck.
I see plenty of the "bling-mobiles" here in Key West and Miami.....shameful indeed.

Do you have spacers or is that 881/890 w/o spacers? Also, what size tires are those?

If you have time can you measure ground to fender?

Thanks!

Good lookin rig!

ARB looks good, who did you order it from?

The best price I have found so far is from 4WP for $728 OTD. I am looking for a used one, but they all seem to be on the east coast.

No spacers. I'm running 265/75-16 Nitto TG's for tires. I will take some measurments today and send you a PM.

I ordered mine from a local tire shop that is an authorized ARB dealer in my area. I got mine for $750 on a Christmas special, $100 off. And I didn't have to pay shipping.

Did you spray (rattle can) your wheels? What brand/color is that?

I like the look of the darker color and not being black.

I'm in the powder coating biz and I made my own color for the wheels. When I got them they were chrome and flaking pretty badly.

I like Mo's too, my wife hated them when I had them, which also encouraged me to sell them, but then the other day we saw a Taco with them and she said "Those are cool wheels!".:confused:

Goodyear Duratracs

Long story short. I dislike the Nittos but found it hard to replace a tire that wasn't worn out. With the Nitto's handicapping my winter fun I could wait no longer and searched for their replacement. After much flip flopping over different brands a designs. I ended up with the Goodyear Duratracs.
IMG_00163.jpg

I've never owned a set of Goodyear's so I hope they serve me well. So far I have been very impressed and I would say that these may be better than my old favorite, the BFG AT. Say what you want about BFG (spendy) but they ARE a great tire and I have a sneaking suspicion that some people like to hate them because they are THAT good. Much like the way your wife hates super models.

Now, that being said. I have no problem giving other brands a shot a being "Tops" on my list, and I think that these Duratracs might be the tire to do it.

I have not had the chance to test them in all areas yet, I only have 150 miles on them. Here is what I can say; don't let their aggressive looks fool you. They are only slightly louder than the Nitto's and about as loud as BFG A/T's maybe less.
Snow? The Duratracs seem to have an edge over my past experience with the BFG's but probably not a whole bunch, and completely dominate the Nitto's.

I will give more detailed updates in the future.
And would like to clear something else up. I was a little disappointed to hear that the Duratracs only had a 2 ply sidewall even on the E rated tires, but I got them anyway, and was pleased to find that the DO indeed have a 3 ply sidewall.

Eager to hear your reviews. It's almost time to replace the tires on the LC and I've been back and forth between BFG KO and GY DT's. The main downer on the BFG's is that they stopped making load range D's for 265/75/16's.
