ARB 2500 Awning / Screen Room installed on 5th Gen 4Runner

Dude! What an awesome response - and with perfect pictures and a link!!! Thanks for the help. That clearly answered my question.:sombrero:

I'm in!

It seems I'm going to be following in your footsteps in many ways with my build. I had found the ARB and awning room and was considering the same thing as an alternative to lugging around and setting up a full-sized (and heavy...and bulky...) Kodiak tent. The tent rocks but if I could incorporate an awning INTO a shelter, that would be awesome.

I'm not looking for 4-season, gale-force, monsoon complete weather protection, but I would like it to be waterproof for those afternoon and overnight mountain showers.

Thanks for the pics and comments.
(And by the way - I have a 2015 4Runner Trail w/ KDSS that I'm working on. It's not showing up in my signature yet)

That's great. I'm glad the response and pictures helped. I travel with my wife, my 16 year-old son, my 12 month-old son, and an 85 pound German Shepherd. Needless to say, we are pretty packed in the 4Runner. I intend to get in the trailer game within the next couple of years, so until then, I needed some space solutions. We use the OzTent RV-5 and now have some additional options with the ARB Awning. I purchased the Screen Room as well as the Full Tent. I plan to use the ARB Awning "space" for a play area for the little one as well as sleeping quarters for the 16 year-old so he can have some space. My wife, the baby, the dog, and myself fit pretty good in the RV-5. It is a big tent.

Good luck with the 2015. I have nothing but great things to say about my truck. It has done everything I have asked and is much more capable than I am.

That room looks like it would work pretty slick for a little expansion with my setup for less than pleasant weather.

That's my plan EXACTLY.

How good is the roof on top, any leaks or cold air leaking?

Do you have pictures of the roof?

I'm sorry that I don't have any pictures of the tent roof. The roof is made of the same material as the rest of the tent. Also keep in mind that the main Awning is still in place in addition to the tent roof, so you are sort of "doubled up" on top. I will honestly say that this ARB tent is no OzTent. The materials are not the same, but I don't think that is the intent.

That said, there are plenty of places to stake it down, the sail track along the leading and trailing edges are very secure, and the plastic awning pole clips seem to do their job.

I am planning a mountain biking trip as a shakedown this week or next to Reveille Peak Ranch. I will try to take more pictures and keep you advised.

Take care and be safe!

I am using the flat Bajarack Picture Album Link Here. The awning is mounted using FourTreks awning mounts. The BlueScrews are ground anchors that can be used for staking out almost anything. In this case, I use them with the two Oztent orange tie down lines to secure the awning.

Nice reply! However, BajaRack does make awning mounts for flat (UT) and hybrid (EXP) Bajaracks - BR-AWNMNT-EXP-0 has 2 brackets for awnings up to 82" and BR-AWNMNT-EXP-3-0 has 3 brackets for longer awnings. They are compatible with RTT installations.

How does the room attach itself to the awning along the vehicle side? Is it velcro like along the sides?

The room attaches along the vehicle side, and the "away" side, using sail track. In other words, the sides parallel with the orientation of the vehicle attach by sliding the sail track into the lip of the awning. The two sides perpendicular to the vehicle uses plastic clips that snap to the awning extension poles. I know that is confusing, but google sail track a little bit and you will see what I'm talking about.

Thanks for the pictures of the awning tent...I was looking at this for awhile, and the write up really made up my mind.

I was looking for something quick and fast if in fact I didn't want to drag the trailer out. That room fits the bill to a "T"

I just purchased a Gander Mountain cot, and started to assemble one box for ancillary gear for light trips.

I'm looking to get an awning and possibly the OzTent as well. Do you have any pictures of your setup with both the OzTent and awning all being used at the same time?

I'm glad this helped you make the decision. I think it is a good, multi-purpose solution to several issues. Quick and easy set-up is one of them as you mentioned. I keep the enclosed room in the back of the truck all the time.

Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures of them set up together. I haven't been able to get away much lately.

Love the runner and looks great on there.

Do you know what the length from the top of the awning to the floor is at maximum extension? Also, do you think this could mount on the side of a cargo trailer with the way it is mounted?

I'm SOOOOO sorry I missed this post. I'm not sure what happened but I never saw a notification. Anyway, The height of the awning will obviously vary depending on how it is mounted to your vehicle and how tall your vehicle sits. I can comfortably stand underneath mine and I am 6'2.

Take care!!

Just bought one and installed it on my Discovery. I also purchased the three wall option instead of the full four wall room...reason being that it's much more adaptable to changing wind and weather conditions.

In other words, if you've got the wind coming at you from one side (and or rain) you can just hang one or two walls of the three as opposed to having to hang the whole four room piece.

I haven't actually done that yet, but am just repeating what an ARB tech told me. If I need privacy on the car side, I can temporarily hang any kind of cover.

Something maybe to consider. Anyway...love the awning...primarily because it's so big.

The ceiling enclosure has no specific structure to keep it suspended, just the attachment points down all the awning aluminum support poles. It is no issue and I am 6'2.
