ARB Fridge question

Those of you running ARB fridges.... Do you use the transit bag? I can't decide if they are worth it or not. Good quality? Does it look tacky? Does it help the fridge cycle less? Etc.

Much appreciated

I bought the T Bag back when I got my fridge a few years ago.
Never used it, sitting in my closet.
May use it some day, not sure.

For the mild temps we have here in the PNW and summers only averaging around 80 or so in prime camping season, I have not felt the need to use it.

I bought one as well last spring. Used it all year.

It is pretty well made and lined with mylar. I bought it mainly to help keep the fridge from getting banged up which it does pretty well.

It seems like in theory it would help the fridge cycle less by adding another of insulation but in practice I have no real way of knowing for sure. I didn't do any comparisons.

It looks pretty good on the thing. The pockets are handy for storing the cords and owners manual when not in use.

Based upon my usage, the transit bags are well worth it. They make a major difference in cycling of the fridge. Sorry, I don't have anything quantitative to back that up with other than I've noticed a big difference in how frequently I hear it kick on in the summer.

It helps with battery consumption, but more importantly it helps a lot with temp. regulation of food in the fridge.

It also helps to keep the fridge looking good. The metal ones tend to get scuffed and dented over the course of typical 4x4 conditions. My first ARB fridge looked like hell after a season w/o a transit bag. My Engel looked great after 3 years with a t-bag from day 1.

Totally agree with Nathan. I have an Engel MT45 with transit bag and it helps to not only keep it like new, but insulates it from the heat so it doesn't have to work so hard to keep everything cool/cold or frozen. Therefore reduces battery consumption, resale value (one day it will happen) and quality of life on the trail...gotta keep those ales at the right temp 2.4C!

I've got the bag on mine & really like it, lots of benefits mentioned above... one thing I don't like is the velcro attachment. I'm sure when outside temps get to 120f the adhesive will get sticky & messy. Very nice quality & fit though.

Not so Teamjeff, the adhesive will not get sticky! I have a friend I travel with who has the ARB plus many others and no one has had any problems with the adhesive. The Engel transit bag also has Velcro holding the top to the lid and has never been sticky or messy and it has been to 135F in the desert.

One last word on this, the ARB cover is ARB blue which looks great when new, but after being in the desert for awhile it does show the dust a lot more than the grey Engel cover. That's the only negative about it. The Velcro attachment is better than the Engel zipper which I hope lasts as long as the fridge does. Plus the ARB transit has a hole cut out so you can get at the front latching mechanism (older models made by Engel for ARB) without pulling down the front.

Either model or others, a transit bag is a good investment!

At first I was not going to get one because of the price. After a few weeks of use though the poor ARB MT35 fridge already had some dents, and scratches. It looked like new when I got it used so I decided that for me the price was worth the benefits. It protects, insulates for increased efficiency, and has the nifty pocket to keep the spare fuse, AC cable, ect.

Edit:
jan was posting almost the same time I was and answered a question about the velcro getting messy. Thanks for that Jan. I think will go ahead and attach the velcro on mine.

Had our fridge for years. Never have got around to buying the bag for it. Works fine without it. Only time i'd like to have the bag is in the summer heat so the fridge won't have to work as hard.

Now now, you need to post a picture of your fridge and show how well insulated it is by the layers of stickers!!!

If you got a bag you would have to cover up all your cool stickers, and that just would not work..

Edit: darn it, Jim beat me to it.

Never had an issues with the velcro - even in the scorching heat of DV.
As Jan says there are trade offs - the dark blue does seem to attract dirt but the design is better than the Engel zipper.
