well i brought that pajero about 3weeks ago and the first week i spend welding that frame up coz of rust....then the brakes went in city trafic rusted out pipes... while i fixed the brake pipes the fuel line went and all the diesel came out LOL.
week two it had a a oil leak in the front and i opend the timing belt housing and chaced the belts and tightners/water pump and oil seals for crack and 2 balance shaft seals. the belts for the altenator and steering i also chanced but now altenator is olmost done... well ill drive it until it goes.

i have to say that the lsd in the back works surprisingly well every body told me that they dont work, with those km´s (333400km) the guy who ownd it b4 me hatto have chanced the oils in the diffs often.

Welcome We,,,

I had two 89s, one for parts, got mine from a liar in Oklahoma, my fault, should not have believed him on his dad's welding skills and the frame fix from the rust, anyway, traded both to a dealer.

I like them, just not the one I had. From what you suggest, an Arctic vehicle, I'd want it bullet proof with that implication. I'd say a complete frame up restoration, not just patching it up.

What do you have in mind? Pics?

Finland is a beautiful country - I have great memories from exploring there.

Welcome. Sorry to hear about all the issues. It sounds like the previous owner was eithernot properly maintaining the rig especially for its age/mileage.

The cooper tires should be fine although for the price (here in the USA) BFGoodrich ATs are hard to beat for regular road use. Pirelli scorpion AT's are supposedly better for snowy roads.

For off road use, BFGoodrich MTs are well regarded as are Goodyear MTRs among many others.

Falken also makes an inexpensive tire that's decently aggressive off road.

HTH.

My 90 LR front doesn't lock until they start slipping and I get on it, then there is a pop noise. I do not think it is right so Im going to take them apart and check the lubrication.
Its still unstoppable.

I was reading the owners manual the other day and it specifically mentions that the hubs will make a grinding or popping sound when engaging and that this sound is not a malfunction. Sounds like this is normal for Monteros.
