Armored J8

The official Jeep page Facebook posted pics of a J8 being tested for ballistic protection certification!

According to JP Magazine, "the Jeep J8 is the first vehicle to receive BRV 2009 VR7 ballistic protection certification using an innovative hot-formed steel technology to create an external, non-parasitic protective shell."

Does anybody know exactly what that means? I googled "BRV 2009 VR7" and found a bunch of pages for the typical armored luxury vehicles. But the Jeep seems unique in that it uses an external shell instead of inserts inside the bodywork.

Love the barn doors... notice no hard top seem. Clearly with this new shell, it is one integrated complete unit that is not removable. Now THAT is what I wish was in production. Screw the liberty. Standardize your fixed top and removable top on one production platform, the JK. Lowers development costs and adds more flexibility for your customers.

Ahh, but some of us would prefer a fixed top that didn't constantly leak and yes I am refering to the jk HARDTOP, could carry a load without having to buy a gobi, baja, etc.

Where is this heading...?

Not sure where Jeep is going with this one? Mind you I would be far more than willing to trade in my HumVeeee or MRAP for a regular old Jeep but..
Since the Military is leaning mostly towards "V" hull shaped blast defeating vehicles...I just don't see how this would work? And if they did sell it to the military I don't even want to think of the torture it would have to endure. The H1 was a decent multi-purpose platform (I can't believe I just said that!) but has become almost worthless. The Military has added SO MUCH crap to it that it is lost. And since the conditions and coflicts we tend to encounter in most places are via Explosives and shaped charges, not bullets, the J8 would be another fobbit tool unable to leave the wire. I would just hate to see them start developing up armored kits, remote turrets, and ECM systems that would remove its potential for being utilitarian. The H1 as a soft skin was handy. Ever tried to pack big boxes in a turtle shell? Its a big No-Go!

I don't think it's for the military. It's like those armored cars that rich people ride around dangerous places in
