Thanks Brad. Brad, if you don't mind me asking, what do you think it is that draws you to that shot? I don't mean to put you on the spot and you don't have to answer if you don't want, I'm just curious as to why some images capture the interest of some and others don't. My own personal tastes have changed quite a bit over the last year, and the obvious has become a bit boring to me, but I know a lot of people gravitate towards those shots more so then some of my personal favorites. Lately I seem drawn to much more delicate images, images that many people simply gleam over. For instance, the last post of mine I do like, I liked the tones when I looked down on the ground today, but I'm not really sure the final product is something I would print for myself at this point. Reason being it's just a bit too obvious to me. What I have printed recently seem like less obvious choices to many but surprisingly enough once mounted they seem to capture much more attention then some of the more obvious shots I've taken. Below are my last few prints which are all much more subtle, and a lot less punchy then some of the stuff I've posted in the past. Anyway, I appreciate any feedback you may have.

Trevor,

The leaves on the ground image hit me with the different late fall tones and the intricate details of the leaf structure that were captured so well.

I am just a guy who has loved the outdoors all my life and just recently have picked up the hobby of photography to try to capture the images that give me so much joy.

Although I know you feel the same connection with nature I think our primary difference is that you have a deep artistic soul. That is a great thing and I have really enjoyed watching you grow as you follow your path. Your quest for artistic satisfaction sometimes heads out beyond what my personal perception can easily appreciate. I still do recognize your talent and pursuit of your artistic vision. I expect to see volumes of amazing work from you as you continue along your path.

I still have so much to learn about just properly capturing what I see I expect that journey will be challenging enough to keep me occupied for years to come. :sombrero:

Kudos to you for mastering the basics early and now pursuing your passion in many directions so you can capture and recreate all the many facets of your artistic eye and heart. I for one look forward to your future work. :coffeedrink::

Just two cents from from and old glamping addict.

Thanks Brad, I appreciate the time. I asked because I too am still learning, always will be I think, and to be honest I myself can't really explain why I like or take certain pictures. I know there's really no such thing as right or wrong in photography but I wish I could put a finger on why things may look 'right' to me or to others. Getting other peoples opinion is a way I guess, for me to help expand my own understanding of communicating through images. Anyway, again thanks so much.

Actually I find myself thinking that a lot..... I keep telling myself that its healthy growth as an artist one way or another. Also may have to do with re-discovering and re-interpreting the same scenes differently; and photography is perfect for that. Never boring for sure.

BTW I love the low contrast stuff you've been posting lately. Perfect weather for it as well.....

As far as the leaf shot-I always like those textural comps. This one has a cool puzzle pieces texture to it. I may have even pushed the blacks more.

The vignetting works very well. (Highlight priority?) I found myself wiping out any and all vignetting like it was the plague- maybe due to what I was seeing on the interweb for a while. (funny how there are trends in style that spread rapidly across galleries and forums)
Now I'm coming back to it as a powerful creative tool that can draw your eye in very effectively.

Keep it up, your amazing progress as an artist, keeps us toddlers motivated.

Few from this afternoon. Quick hike with the girls. I gave each of them a small notepad and a pencil. I told them to take their time and to look for details. Make notes. Make a sketch. Keep a record of what you see. All 3 took the instructions very seriously. Piper, the youngest, was out in front yelling "C'mon!" and scribbling very intently. Roxy, the little middle, copied down the names of the plants from the ID plaques and drew pictures of what she saw in the distance. Dillen, the eldest, stopped every ten feet or so and wrote down the shape of the leaves, what it felt like, what it smelled like, what color it was and just about everything else you could think of to describe a plant.

I love how you had the girls think about what they saw and write it down, Very cool, :victory:

Great captures of them enjoying the experience. Well done.

Definitely your better half!

Nicely done. I like the soft lighting, angle of the shot and shallow DOF. It doesn't hurt to have such a nice looking model either.

BTW, I don't believe she is really your wife. I think you found these images on the internet and are feeding us a big line of BS. :xxrotflma:jump:

Took a quick hike with my eldest daughter this past Sunday in Torrey Pines State Park. The theme for the hike was "pay attention". I gave her a camera and followed about 10 steps behind and found my own details to capture.
