Nice lightning images.

Never had much luck with lighting shots, but I got a lightning trigger called a Lightning Bug from http://mkcontrols.com that I'm anxious to try if it ever rains around here. I saw some shots taken with it at a photo conference I attended and they were pretty good.

I enjoy capturing lightning. Or at least trying to.

My experience has been it takes the right storm formation to make it easy. If the lightning is imbedded in the rain then it's tough to get a clear shot. When an approaching storm has the lightning out in front of the rain, it's pretty easy.

I just set up a tripod and set the exposure for about 15 seconds, F8, manual focus to infinity and then sit back and remotely trigger the exposures one after the other as the storm moves in. With an active storm, your bound to catch something.

These were from last year's Tucson Monsoon.

Thanks. Fun stuff. Those were taken from my porch so I could run inside when the storm got too close. :sombrero:

I really want to find an opportunity to set up out in the sticks with some nice landscape in the foreground and catch similar lightning activity. I'll keep looking for that dream shot.

A friend of mine here in Tucson got some amazing captures this year of the San Xavier Mission back lit with multiple lightning bolts. It was one of those sweet opportunities and he was in the right place at the right time.

Here's Mark Fleming's great capture this year:

Nice. I've gotten a few bolts with long exposures at night, but nothing too great. The thing I like about the trigger is that you can get lightning in the daytime when you can't afford long exposures. That way you can get some landscape detail along with the weather. Now all I need is a storm to try it out. ;-)

Beautiful definition on some of those leaf shots.
Great regional fall series Trevor. I always like your color comps
